I advise you use NOD32, I use it myself and it has never failed me (Unlike Norton).

Both are good options, I run both of them (on different computers, if you have two AV programs on one computer bad things can happen)

since this is the most recent thread for best antivirus, i figured i would post in here
last night i got a nasty virus/trojan combo that MSE would only detect randomly, and would not take care of...even when i pointed it directly to the program file! for those who will ask, definitions were less than a day old
i had to remove the bad files myself by looking at the datestamps, as i knew when the infection occured
im going back to avast after this. MSe is great in that it uses little resources, but im of the opinon that avast gives better protection

Avast ... MS Essentials is light wieght and pretty good but noway to opt out of contributing to the CLOUD!!!!!

Avira for me too. As for the popup, there is a workaround for it:
go to the avira folder, and check these 2 boxes:
And voila, no more daily popup
I don't get it why ppl are so afraid of the cloud tech. It's not like the AV is sending entire files to their servers. And i also think avast! or MSE are good options.
