Hmm, all right. Sorry Mussels I did not know that you did not like me.

Ok, I'm outta here. Bye all. Yes, I'm a bit disappointed.

what i dont like, is people thinking they have the power to run the forum. No one gets to break rules without getting punished. No one sets the rules, except w1zzard. You dont go telling moderators what to do, and tell them to ban people when they've broken no rules.

I also don't like having my time wasted getting 10 emails from TPU, because you got your panties in a twist that someone told you off for breaking a forum rule, and you felt the need to report every post he made, post in two threads about it, AND PM me about it.

All you're doing is picking a fight. People are allowed to disagree with you and post opposing viewpoints.

see 1 and 3.

In my opinion, you just get overly defensive when people dont agree with your viewpoint, and you argue about it.

I PM'ed this to you, Mussels:
I apologize for asking you for a couple favors. I do not try to tell you to do things. When Binge complains about ROP's, people do not attack him for his point-views. Whenever I present my viewpoint here, many people just attack me out of the blue, as can clearly be seen here on this thread if you read it.

I just thought that Steevo broke the rules by constantly harassing me with rude posts. Steevo was the one trying to pick a fight with me for an eternity, in all of my honesty.

Sorry about double posting. After being active on so many forums for so long, and doing it here for so long without any warnings of any kind, it seemed ok for the time being. I'm not perfect myself, and I will not be double posting here again, since it's the rule.

I'm only trying to do you guys a favor in case this potential AF issue turns out to be true, and real. Then we'd all put pressure on ATI to give us an option for Full Trilinear with AF.

Oh well, my reputation is already destroyed because of your comment above, for everybody to see in that thread. So, you never really liked me from when I first came here, right?

Yes, I'm defending myself here, but that is just because I just do not want my reputation to be completely destroyed, or banned here because of the public comment above. Please, I love TPU, and want it to be a good place. There's another guy PM'ing me about Steevo, with the same concerns. Also, I did not know that it was against the rules to post 2 times in a row, which was not clear in the rules/guidelines (and I won't do it again), but Steevo has broken like 8-9 rules in this guideline: http://forums.techpowerup.com/announcement.php?f=6

I'm really outta here of this thread.

Yeah, you're right, I've been thinking about it for a while and I should just continue the constructive discussion about the 5870 since this potential AF brilinear issue is so close to fruition in being either confirmed or otherwise. Better than just giving up in defeat.

I'll just add Steevo to my ignore list and continue my efforts on this issue. :toast:

Yeah, the AF is perfect, but it's not the colors that I'm talking about. (Ignore the arrows in the picture.) It's the gray area that I'm talking about here in this thread. Got it, dude?

By comparison, here's an image from NV. The grey area (the textures that are nearer to you before the AF starts kicking in with the more distant textures) has smooth trilinear filtering without any big round circular lines:

The same also applies for the 4870, where there are not any noticeable lines of transition in the grey background:

Thanks for asking.

P.S. -- Also, for the 5870, where the red outer circle is transparent, fading away into grey.. the grey area does not show any detail, unlike the 4870/GTX 280.

Got it thanks. Does anyone know the name of this test and if it can be downloaded from somewhere?

Yeah, it's a tiny program called D3DAFTester. http://www.3dcenter.org/download/d3d-af-tester There's also an OpenGL version somewhere else.

In the program, change the checkerboard texture to 2, from the default of 8, so that there's more detailed texture. In the video card CP, you could set the AF to "Application controlled" so that you can change the AF from within the AFTester program without having to access the CP.

The AF can also be tested with the full version of 3DMark06, but I do not think it shows such a detailed background. It's better to test in real-world games and benchmarks anyways, as done on alienbabeltech.com

(EDIT: There's also an option in D3DAFtester to change the mipmaps from full colored to tinted or normal. If you switch to either tinted or normal, you could see the grey moire pattern behind the AF colors. I'm wondering if the 5870 has it blurry without any patterns behind the colors, all the way to the center or the end of the tunnel.)

The circle looks better. Perhaps you should stick to using a 4870/GTX280? Maybe file a support ticket to AMD demanding filtering that suits your tastes? What does going over and over and over again with this accomplish on this forum? From a moderator standpoint, absolutely nothing.

Personally I don't mind if someone wants to make a point. But regurgitating it over and over again most find annoying.

Now, people are starting to get upset at this thread (I'm indifferent/don't care) and putting time and effort into keeping this thread open is definitely not worth it, so is there anything anyone wants to add before it's shut down? Perhaps another go at circles and squares? :)

Alrite.

If you could keep it open, I'd appreciate it. I think it's nearing fruition, where a few people might provide some more real-world game image comparisons. Then TPU would be the first forum to really point this out, other than alienbabeltech doing it as a review site.

It's because I think that ATI would not take an individual complaint rather seriously. If it's publicly brought to attention, we'd be much more likely to get what we want (an option to force Full Trilinear).

I'm not telling you what to do.. just do whatever you wish. Thanks for your input/opinion, respectfully.

I don't see it happening. Plus, you already seem convinced that the pictures someone provided earlier clearly show the problem you are describing. Some do not. People could post pictures all day long and you will still have people that disagree or agree that there is a "filtering problem." Any "proof" shown in a screenshot isn't proof as there are too many anomalous factors going into a screenshot. Proof in this case is as subjective as the screenshots and no more can be accomplished one way or the other.
