NVIDIA is selling tons of G80's, not to e-tailers, but to NVIDIA's partners such as EVGA. Because they know the G80 will be the only DirectX 10 GPU on the market until 2007, they are making sure to have plenty of G80's for November 7th. Chances are that the first batch of G80's will ship very fast, and like the 7800 series, will be very hard to get the first several weeks after launch.

Even being the fastest production card on the planet on it's release, I do not understand why they are going to sell so fast since the whole DX-10 Vista debacle. I don't want to turn this into another stupid Vista bashfest, but until DX-10 can be used and is being used in games, there is no logical reason to jump on these cards except to prove you can spend the most money.

its just like the fx 62 owners and x6800 owners it is to prove that you can get whatever you want everyone knows a x2 4600 performs just as well as a fx when you oc them and costs 1/3 the price and a e6400 runs w/ the x6800s also its the same old arguement when does performance become excesssive? who really can notice the diff between 35fps and 120fps? if i can xfire a pair of x1800s and run them w/ a x1950 why buy the more expensive x1950? mainly b/c you can thats the whole reason g80s will sell and vista will sell also b/c its new hell look @ the nvidia fx series of cards those sold and they were crap for lack of a better word

It is because they plan to keep the price as high as possible so the retailers can sell all of the outdated dx9 stock and still make a profit on them

There's a huge difference between 35fps and 120fps.

The official point where you don't notice a higher framerate is 50fps from what I've heard.

Depends on the person. Personally, I cant stand any CRT refresh rate under 70hz, I can see the flickering. With framerates, I can tell if it drops under around 60.

Definitely right there, shoulda mentioned that :). I'll notice if it dips under 40 fps, the game will feel laggy under 30fps, and I'll get frustrated if a game runs sub 20fps. CRT refresh rates are completely different, I get a headache at anything under 72hz lol.

68FPS is the official scientific limit of most people's vision. There is certian to be people that can see more, but anything that stays 60FPS+ is considered immersive in gaming. Either way, I have no plans of going G80 or R600 anytime within the next 12-18 months, and I am a constant upgrader. There is just no reason, and I have sworn off benchmarking since it just makes me spend too much money.

I'll go against the grain here then, and say that I have money put aside for a couple of these buggers...
