I still say that Contra is the hardest game ever made.

Contra for NES? If so, then that one was pretty easy for me. I think I made a video via emulator of me finishing it in under 40 minutes or something back in 2000-2001 or around there. The only part I found a bit difficult was the factory level.

If you mean some other port of Contra, then I'm not sure, since I don't think I've tried too many others, aside from a port for Sega Genesis (I forget the exact title). But the NES one was pretty easy, emulator or no emulator.

The hardest game I ever played was the first game I ever programmed on a computer.
It was a simple text based archery game that would tell you how far away the target was, and you would have to enter the angle (0-90) and the velocity and the computer would do a simple trajectory algorithm to determine where the arrow landed.

The proplem was that when I first played the game, I realized that the computer was generating hit locations to 3 decimal point precision and I had not coded any "hit radius" into it. So you could miss the target by 0.001 inches. I played for awhile before I realized it was so impossible to give it the exact numbers it needed to hit the target that I coded in a hit radius (+ or - some factor). Took some of the thrill out of it, but at least you could hit the target once in awhile.

Circle the cat was painfully easy. :p
Downloading iwtbtg. Sounds like fun.

I'll be happy to write a game that is so freakin' hard you will scream and break stuff ... if anyone wants one. lol

Lol ... The first program I wrote on a computer was called "Guess the Number".
It asked you to tell the computer how many digits (1-5) the number had, and then it would randomly generate a number with that many digit for you to guess.

You got one guess, and then the program reseeded the random number generator and picked another number.

It was still several levels of magnitude easier (statistically) than the archery program.

Any of the Ghouls n' Ghosts /Ghosts n' Goblins games are tough -I always had a really hard time with Battletoads. I thought the difficulty would be on par with the old TMNT (except the original -that was almost impossible as well) games, but was grossly mistaken. Battletoads=damned tough!

I remember that one was pretty cool too. The zombies poping up out the ground. Wish there was more platform games still today.

You should make it where the program is un-exitable once started. If you physically remove the power so the pc shuts down, it just starts up with windows. If you guess right, it goes away and deletes itself. If you guess wrong... it massively overvolts everything. Ker-plow!

I don't want to destroy computer, I just would want to destroy the user's self confidence.

Actually, give me an idea for a simple game (no graphics ideas, as that is not what make as game hard) and I'll code something up. Maybe we can use it for a TPU contest!!

King's Bounty. Good. Freaking. Luck.

Its a strategy game where you are always fighting opponents that are much, much tougher than you. Your units are limited. So if too many are lost, you will be gimped later in the game.

I think you're just a very bad player :) King's bounty isn't hard at all, at least not for former HoMM 3 addicts.

The first actually hard game that comes to mind is Ikaragua.
