how long to run prime 95 or intel burn test

i am wondering how long i should run prime 95 or intel burn test and at what settings to run them.

Prime95 is now archaic, and really long runs put unneeded stress on hardware. Run 20 cycles of LinX or and hour of OCCT Linpack. If you pass these, you are pretty damn stable.

As with any testing application, its all about a comfort zone. Most tests are designed to pass over an hour span, and is ussually enough to get on with your life.

HOWEVER....there have been many instances when my overclock is high, I can pass Prime95 / OCCT / whatever, and still it will eventually crash in an odd game or two.

My advise is simple, run a test or two if they pass, go to games, F@H , or whatever you do mostly with your rig, and test it while having a bit of fun. Crashes may occur, but at least you arent bored out of your mind untill it happens.

Personally I run Prime or OCCT for an hour with a F@H client going on my GPU's, total stress of the system in one shot, none of this memset passed the ram, and OCCT passed the CPU, but it still crashes garbage. Load it all up and see what the system takes

May sound strange, but I used 3Dmark 06's CPU test to verify clocks fast. If you can pass the CPU test in 06 you are usually in a good spot for all around use.

My trick (so far) is to run ORTHOS for 20 minutes. I have found that after 20 minutes, whether I set it up for an hour or overnight, there is almost never any difference.

10 runs of Intel Burn Test you are good to go. On my E8400 5 runs at it was 90% stable

You got 36C load on an 810 @ 3.25Ghz with an H50? That's pretty astounding.. Oregon must be hella cold this time of year

I say a 3.6Ghz-3.8Ghz 24/7 stable OC is most in the realm of possibility.

it is 49f or 9c in my city right now and not very hot in my room.

Most here will tell you this is crazy, but all my builds for customers get tortured with at least 24 hours of simultaneous Prime and Furmark in an 80*F environment. If they survive that and stay within my acceptable temps range, they'll stay solid regardless of what the customer throws at them and where they live (within reason). I have seen systems fail after the 12 hour mark; that means dropping to overclock a bit and starting again. They don't go out the door until they pass the full-length test (among other checks and tests). In four years, under 1% of my customers have any hardware-related issue with their systems. All were hard drive or fan failures.

Like sneeky said, it's all about comfort zone. Extensive testing is worth my not having to spend time and money fixing/replacing/shipping parts down the line, and worth keeping my reputation for rock solid builds. But I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for personal use.
