TPU Contest ideas...what's yours?

Invent a single device that works with a PC. Be it a cup holder or a soldered on PCI-E slot, anything. Votes could be decided on ingenutiy, originality, usefulness, etc.

How about a random screenshot comp where someone (prehaps the last winner), posts a random screenshot in a game, basicly you need to guess what game it is?

I still recon my idea is good, as im pretty sure everyone here loves a good game

One noteworthy contest I saw recently on another site was a trivia contest relying on pictures. On starting day, in this case a Monday, they'd show you a picture of a piece of hardware with most of it blacked out. Day 2 would be the same picture, with a little more revealed. So on, so forth until Friday when the full picture was put up.

People who guess correctly on day 1 got 5 entries, day 2 correct answer earned 4 entries, all the way down to 1 entry for day 5. Incorrect, no matter the day, was worth 0 entries of course. At the end of each week, the item(s) in question was(were) raffled off and then the next week's contest started. I think this happened over 4 weeks, and was pretty fun doing the whole trivia bit.

Buddy of mine found a guy selling a 'box' of computer parts on CraigsList for $50. Found a Q6600 G0 and sold it for $175 within 1 day. Lucky bastard.

Contest ideas :

Graphic Arts : Redesign the TPU forums logo bar. Nothing wrong with it, it would just be a fun contest.
Graphic Arts : Most creative rendering of the TPU (power button) logo.
Photography : Best photograph that contains W1zz's avatar.
Writing : Best moderator suck up lines.
Writing : How TPU ruined my sex life (150 words or less)
Case Mod : Best TPU themed case
Drawing : Best hand drawn illustration of W1zz and all the staff

How about pictures and descriptions of the worst PC possible. The one with the worst PC imaginable wins.

Computer Hardware being used for anything but hardware. Best Picture/Idea wins. Like using a CPU to cook some eggs or a graphics card to hold up a table.

I personally like the OCing Idea, but winner would be the one with the highest Benchmark score.

I'll try and think of some better ones.

I would like a contest that promotes site based activity. Like the most thanked useful posts in the next 2 weeks. This would encourage people to make useful posts, help out, and win great prizes. Or the most intresting thread based on views, and user input. A thread like a subjective comparison between items, new software, how to, etc.... Let the thread views and user comments and thanks drive the contest/gifting.

+1 to both Steevo's and El Fiendo's suggestion.

An idea I have elaborating on El Fiendo's is using pictures of Game dvd/cd cases.
One would start with a zoomed-in picture. Then as guesses go by the picture gets gradually zoomed out till someone guesses the name of the game.

Taking an example one would start with this:

If that would be too easy, the first picture could also be made in one colour (say just a shade of green) and randomly rotated.

its an excellent idea, it encourages everyone to participate (not just those with lots of tools/money)

I havent seen it done anywhere yet

and really after seeing t77snapshot's entry (pretty dam cool) it hit me that just plain boxes with stuff inside seemed silly, now add to that your idea to keep track of temps (I am a bit tired of fancy paint/hardware that does nothing to improve the basic case idea)

It just seemed to be the ultimate case contest (but should have a more realistic time limit maybe a week or 2 to allow people to have more time to plan and incorporate it into their schedules)
and possibility limiting it to using just cardboard, tape and a hot melt glue gun and maybe fan grills to keep it simple..(no plastic/Carbonfiber/alum panels/paint etc)

Don't worry if it was to be accepted the time limit would be upped.I just didn't want people wasting alot of time on something that is most likely going to be thrown away and to kinda keep it some what fair.
Its more fair if people have a limit of sizes and things that can be used and also time. Now for some that have alot of things to do the time limit may not work for them
