Theres a recent quick Hands-on review by Engadget, which stated the following:

" * It's not light. It feels pretty weighty in your hand.

* The screen is stunning, and it's 1024 x 768. Feels just like a huge iPhone in your hands.

* The speed of the CPU is something to be marveled at. It is blazingly fast from what we can tell. Webpages loaded up super fast, and scrolling was without a hiccup. Moving into and out of apps was a breeze. Everything flew.

* There's no multitasking at all. It's a real disappointment. All this power and very little you can do with it at once. No multitasking means no streaming Pandora when you're working in Pages... you can figure it out. It's a real setback for this device.

* The ebook implementation is about as close as you can get to reading without a stack of bound paper in your hand. The visual stuff really helps flesh out the experience. It may be just for show, but it counts here."

No multitasking?.....ok WTF, that's a real downside.

in my mind no, . . . . the market will be saturated with these buy the end of year, they're just looking for new ways to make money, so is HP with their Slate.

I don't see any real use for it. Its too big to be portable, and too small to work with it at home where you can set up real PCs. Or Macs. Its just a toy for the fan that already has everything. Quite pointless device in my eyes.

Funny voting choices. Not mutually exclusive, therefore should be multivote. And also loaded. Only one positive choice and 5 negative ones! Talk about knowing how to rig an election! I nominated the W1zzard for President! [backbeat] (Dope on Plastic... great CD series. Recommended.)

What about for my mom, that isn't very good with PC's, but loves to listen to music, and check her e-mail, and watch youtube? :)

Seems a perfect fit for a laptop replacement for super light-duty users, or people wanting a ultra-light laptop. I absolutely love my iPhone, but just wish sometimes the screen was a wee bit bigger. But then it would be bulkier, and harder to carry...

However, don't judge it too harshly on it's OS yet IMO. It hasn't had time to mature, which is where apples strength really lies. The iPhone was always hammered for not having any apps or useful features when it launched too, but look at it now. I could VPN into my home network, and VNC into my server, play CoD Nazi Zombies, telnet into the server at work, pay my bills, and even play playstation games.

It's not made for everyone, it's intended to fill a niche market. And it will fill it well.

Its not a tablet pc
You're right.

It's an ARM based Netbook with a touch screen instead of a physical keyboard :)

How can people say that this is innovative?

It's just a big iPhone/Touch... It even looks the same... I am just lost for words about this

I know it will be successful with all those people who shit every Apple, but damn? Really? Just what is innovative and new about this?

the killers for me are

no camera: stab in the back
no usb ports without ugly adapters: stab in the throat
bezel is too big, the, and looks a little ugly and is not portable: stabbed in the heart
its not widescreen: shoots in leg
no HDMI: . . . . .

this is apple in their quest to make money off a big ass iphone

I'm not impressed.

Looks really nice, on the outside.

Once you read what it can do it's like that Dane CooK piece where he said hearing screeching tires with no wreck behind it was the worst let down ever.

It's basically a $500 internet pad.

No functionality whatsoever and it's going to be a mistake for apple and their product return rate is going to go through the roof once the average joe realizes what it CANT do.

No, average joes love Xbox 360's and Gateways.

This product is a great show of how "tiny" or "thin" that something can be made... imagine if this thing could do multitasking, it did have a hi res screen and it did have wireless input support and it was the size of what it is.

Imagine how much it would cost if it did have those features... for $500 this is quite impressive and I don't expect them to hold their value for too long.

All in all it's a nice product but I think corners had to be cut on functionality bec of the size and battery requirements... I mean come on that thing looks like a piece of glass, nearly.

Imagine if they put a webcam on that thing and with 3g you could have face to face webcam/phone conversations whislt holding that thing to your face...

Imagine how cool that woudl be for military folks with hi-speed internet to talk to people back here in the states face to face.

those kinda things in their commercial would be exciting about this product but it doesnt do much but play crappy aps and surf the web which works perfectly fine on the pc youre using to read this.

The lack of multi-tasking is really the killer imo. It's the difference between this being a truly innovative and compelling device and just an over-sized itouch. It can't rightly compare to the functionality of a netbook without being able to do at least 2 things at once. The lack of USB is the second killer. There's potential here, I can't for the life of me figure out why apple decided not to include USB. I can kind of understand the multi-tasking as they basically are just using the iphone OS, but lack of USB is baffling. Perhaps a future version will include both of these features, people are already crying loudly for them. Only then can I see this being viably worth it's weight in gold.
