New games require the latest version of DirectX 9.0C

Anyone wondering why demos for recent games such as Battlefield 2142 aren't working need look no farther then their version of DirectX. People using a version earlier then the October 2006 version may have lots of problems with the game, and the game might not even run. As more and more games require the latest version of DirectX, it's probably a good idea to upgrade. You can grab the latest copy here.

not just bf2142, but most games. it installs the directx upgrade when you install most games. remember bf2? i require (and supplied) a dx9 upgrade. if you say no to it, the game wont work well.

why dont developers just switch back to using openGL it would make thing so much eaiser for the consumer.

For display stuff? It ROCKS...

However, DirectX allows control of things like "force feedback" in joysticks & more, & it does sound, you-name-it, & gamers demand it, so if you were a software publishing house, wouldn't you want to UNIFY on 1 dev std. & one especially that controls ANY gaming equipment & on "WinTendo" lol, the largest PC gaming possible OS there is?

Still, working w/ DirectX? It's tougher imo @ least & based on ah, not hugest experience, but did use it...

That's WHY I think it's harder to work w/ than OpenGL personally, it does more (done a bit of dabbling here in screensavers mainly, I like making those & both in DirectX & OpenGL)!

Personally, I love OpenGL because I felt it was cool & simpler to work w/ than DirectX function calls & structures + face it: In games, like Quake 4 SMP 1.3? Well, take a look @ it! Nuff said...

This isn't the first time they've updated DX 9.0C, there are a number of different versions of it and they are most easily identified by being called "July 2006" or something like that in most cases.

because then there would be less graphic card competition and thererfore higher prices as one of the great strengths of NVidia (some might say their only strength!) is their cards excellent perormance in Open GL applications which could mean that in some games a 7900GT could outperform some much more exspensive ATi cards.

You could always argue if they did go back to OpenGL it would make ATI more determined to catch up with NVidia so they might have more to offer us though.

when i go to install it asks me for a directory, can sum one please copy past the directory were supposed to install the file to.
