First off, grab a coffee filter and wipe the most of thermal grease off. Then, for the fine remains, I use a cotton pad soaked with 70% alcohol. Then, give it a dry cleaning with a towel.

Works perfectly for me.

dremel with buffing pad and soft scrub or Ajax and soap. will make it look like a shiny 50% mirror.

I did this on my tuniq tower and lowered temps by 5 deg.

I really should try out Ketchup. I hear good things about that stuff regarding cleaning blocks.

Man I can already hear my non-techie friends...

"Uhm, why do you have coffe filters, a bottle of Ketchup and pure alcohol on your desk?"
"Duh, to clean copper bases, doofie!"

That's better than them asking,"Why do you have coffee filters and a bottle of lotion at your desk!?"

While on the subject of coffee filters, they also make great "lint-free towels" for cleaning off thermal compound. Just make sure they aren't used filters... :banghead:

There are a lot of ways to clean your blocks.

1. Take apart your block so your just left with the copper plate.
2. Get a little bowl where your copper plate can fit into.

Now you have your choice of acids.
1. Distilled vinegar... the type you find at the store. Dip the block in for about 15 min, and then rince with water IMEDIATELY or you will get oxidation FAST.

2. Fill the bowl up with Coke.. yes the red can coke... I prefer regular over diet..
Leave the block inside for a few hours... actually a good half day. And cover the top of the bowl with a plate...
But make sure the block is COMPLETELY submerged... or you will get oxidation.

3. You can sit there and buff with ketchup or taco sause, however i prefer the bowl action, as i can just leave it and walk away. :p

Ill tell you what, your going to end up taking off and putting back together lots of copper. Believe me, I just used to use the highest percent alcohol I could find at the drug store. Cmon !! break out with the pennies and just buy the right stuff!! The good stuff!! Artic Clean Thermal Material Remover first.... second Artic Clean Thermal Surface Purifier. They come together and they do a great job after yo finish buffing and polishing, use the Purifier last and you will get the best cohesion ever... Why bother with anything else when you can get this stuff for 12 bucks ?

Traditional white toothpaste.

Works on every metal ever.

And polishes extremely well due to is abrasive nature!

I'ma post pics of stuff I've polished up with tooth paste lol

im serious.. try coke...

u guys think im kidding, but im not...

It just takes time... but when your cleaning other stuff, the time goes by fast.

Just make sure you seal your bowl, so the carbonic acid doesnt all escape into your room.

That's next. This CLR doesn't seem to be doing much. Some scale is coming off, but the copper is still brown. Fighting brown copper with brown soda makes perfect sense! I only have an old can of Pepsi, some diet Dr. Pepper or some generic Sprite to use. Which one?

Use toothpaste! seriously, the gentle abrasive properties it has is perfect for metal!

I've turned horrible blocks and coolers into mirrors using paste :p

That is super funny, but Im sure Coke does certainly strip off any residue on the block!! The citric acid in the Ketchup should work too!! I still like ackey hol.

I think the pepsi is probably the most acidic, but just watch for sugary residue.

We need a ghetto cleaner comparison:

Which cleans better: ketchup, toothpaste, soda or fecal matter?
