Are my temps to high?

Hi guy's i recently installed a 4870x2 to my system and my temps seems really high, now i understand that this will be a hot card with 2 gpus on one pcb but they do seem very high to me.
Is the temps im getting what i should expect from a 4870 x2? The other thing that struck me is that the card is hot but the fan is only at 25% should it be this low when the temps high, it does spin up when gaming, but during gaming i cant touch the card as it would seriously burn if i left my hand on there too long.

BTW, im in awe of the 4870x2's power this is one hell of an upgrade over a single 4890, Everything ive played just runs so sweet!


Also while im posting about temps how are my other temps looking over all on my system.


I have made taken 2 pic's one about 2-3 min's after gaming and one with the system idle.
My CPU is water cooled by 2 rad's (one 360 and one 120), the 4870x2 is on stock cooling and the motherboard is the stock heat-pipe passive design.

Seems about right when you consider airflow levels of your case.

They are hot as crap cards!

can always buy two universal blocks or two gpu coolers that would fit


Come round again I want to see if the cards are that hot in my case ! lol

im happy to stay with the stock cooler tbh, temps dont worry me as long as they are not doing damage to the card.

GPU do tend to be more hardy then CPUs when it comes to heat for extended periods but I still don't like seeing over 65 on a graphics card either.

Maybe stick a fan on the HDD area in your case, I see to recall seeing some mesh there, that could help out.

yeah i could do that but then i suppose its pulling the hot air away from hardrives and supplying the card with 'warmer' air rather then being supplied from my bottom intake.

BTW panther, i should make a trip down again, you think that 4890 was powerful!? you aint nothing this is one hell of a beast!

You ever touched a modern HDD man? they don't get very warm


Its the flowing of air that is important anyway, the air from your HDD area will maybe be 1 c warmer then other air, so it could still potentially cool things down to 1 degree above ambient case temps : ] )

lol, i will stick one of my noctua fans on there later then and see if that sorts a temp drop by some degree.

As the card seems to be enshrouded you may not get the best of results, but having air flowing over the back of the card can really help cooling sometimes, I've seen drops of 5 c just having a fan going in that way.

check your airflow ;i think you have too many vents and the card don't get enough air

there is an inlet of cold air with fan pushing in, you just cant see it on that pic, but i have far more fans pushing out then i do pulling in. so this maybe my problem.

@panther yeah i like them i was going to have it off you when i was down at yours but then that fans would anoy me, they just create more noise and tbh my ram is only just warm to the touch. For aesthetics tho i get your drift.

No, I recommend setting the fans to the highest to can take manually and leaving them that speed.

If you are worried, or just want lower temps, use a 3rd party program to adjust the fan speed manually to something higher.

@Newtekie- Well i was hoping that i didnt have to mess with 3rd party apps, not because i dont know what they are or dont know how to use them, but i just like to keep things minimal.

@brandon- well i only received the card yesterday but suppose if nothing else comes up i will try it, Im sure the previous owner said that they reseated with mx2.

I checked out the bios using gpuz to extract and opened with rbe, now according to rbe, my fan cycle should be upping my fan according to temps (im sure you know what screen i mean if you have used RBE)
Now the fan is upping it self from 26% (idle) to 40% when it switches to 3d mode but it never climbs higher then this, even at egg frying temps. According to the bios obtained from the card @ 80c the fan should be running at 65% and climbing up, but this aint happening, maybe a fresh bios flash?

i got 2 4870x2 with the stock cooler and i could cook eggs. u have to isolate them so the heat doesnt come in contact with the other components or watercool it. hope i helped

So man, i had that card, dont keep the fan in 27%, create a profile in CC and make default fan at 40-45% and in gaming 50-60%

yeah i might add a full cover block into my loop. just a pain and i cba tbh

dam 100% is like an aircraft taking off louder then my 4890 was at 100%
