Morning all,
Just been googling about after my problems with a clicking sound, problem identified now but thought i'd share. The setup is nearly three years old now...or is it two.

I have one main HD and have/had two WD360 raptor HD's set up in Raid 0 all under HyperOS (a multi bootable software prog).
Have had no real problems until just over a week ago when a click click (like a relay sound) was heard when booting up from one system to another...strange! This got worse until, after spending hours looking for a software problem as in drive letters getting mixed up I took the two raptors out of the system and hay hoo all is working fine now with the main HD.

Have had HD's go before but they were more of a chatter not a click.....click!

I'm going to stick them back in system tomorrow/today and try and retrieve some data from them,I mainly used them for games and DVD copying so won't be a great loss if i can't save some of it...more annoying than anything else!

The problem could still be a power one as it was very hard to distinguish where the click was coming from but i'm pretty confident it's one of the Raptor drives as it was happening on 'computers/partitions' when running on my main drive also.

All good fun!

first see if the hdd is giving a smart error code or has some mech. defect. You can find this out my installing speedfan and all the info is in the smart section. second, run check disk to see if there any bad blocks. most of the click is due to a seeking issue, it does not know where to start and stop reading. sometimes doing a zerofill can solve this issue. over all you hdd might be dying and backup asap.

It came w/ my mom's HP and I have it now, can't really RMA...

how old, if the hp is still under warrinty then call them and tell them the drive is giving errors and clicking, hp is great about replacing drives without alot of hassles:)

They're still going strong, and smart tests show no errors :)

Thread resurrected eh? I've been having a few clicking noises upon booting from my 250Gb DM as far as I can tell but Speedfan's online analysis shows over 90% performance for both readings at the end, 1 of which is health so any ideas?

So the test show the drive is healthy? Did you try to run Maxtor's disk checking utility? I would recommend running that, because if you try to call tech support or RMA it back to Maxtor, they are going to want you to do that anyway.
