ok so my computer decides to not boot up anymore. i dont know why. i shut down my pc after checking my email and the weather reports before going out. when i come back, i press my power button and go take a shower. when i come back, the pc is basically hanging like it would from a bad OC restart. this is weird because the computer has been on stock settings and has been working flawlessly until now. any ideas? i tried resetting BIOS and all connections SHOULD BE fine since the pc hasnt had any problems until randomly now.

edit: if my system doesnt hang, it'll just power up then shut off after a few seconds, then repeat. basically keeps turning on and off.

Hm it will be hard to diagnose the machine without at least knowing whats wrong with it (hence beep codes) You re going in blind ;) Anyways have you tried taking it apart and re building it? Seems its the only logical way.

This happened to me when my mobo went faulty. Nothing appeared on the screen it just kept restarting the way you described. Also, I had a problem with a faulty usb cable which prevented the pc from turing on at all. Rebuilding would be a good idea.

i see. i was thinking it was the PSU, but my PSU has the green-yellow-red indicator LED and it's GREEN when it powers up. do you think i should RMA the motherboard?

if you still have the hd4850 in your sig try another graphics card, ive got a hd4850 here (saphire version). pc wont boot with it in no post, no bios beeps nothing. card looks to power up as normal fan starts, 2 red lights on card come on then go off (normal for these cards). take the card out system boots perfect put it back in no go, tried booting with the hd4850 in second pci-e socket with another card in first still nothing.
never found a way to fix it.

just thought i would add the card was completely stock.
bios on motherboard was reset (for testing) still nothing
tested 2 different power supplys (all good quality)
i think this is a common fault on the hd4850 as ive seen a fair few people reporting same symptoms (this is not the usual overheat light stays on or 12v light stays on, normal card lights post as normal)

that's interesting. maybe i stressed out my card from playing HON on full settings (1680x1050 all high settings)?
and i dont have an extra video card to use. my friend's using it in his rig. :[

im willing to bet thats what it is, ive never seen a card cause the system to stop post. even a card with a bad bios update will usually make it past post. this is just nothing.

i'll look into it. it wouldn't hurt for me to RMA my mobo (previously used) and the card (possibly stressed out). i'll weigh my options. however, i dont know how HIS's RMA process is. could be unpleasant.

edit: one person told me it could be possible that the mobo has gone bad. another said the video card could be the cause of this. i did play HoN at 1680x1050 resolution and high settings, so that might have taken a toll on my video card. i'm thinking about RMAing the mobo and the vid card one at a time. does anybody know how gigabyte and HIS's rma process is? hopefully they were pleasant.
