Why 9.12 and not a 10.2 or 10.3a?, is ridiculous see that part on this review.

Sorry guys but you dissapoint a lot with that detail. I don't know.... this is frustrating, all day wating for your review ( one of the best reviews on web ) and do you use that oldies and creeping drivers for what? to leave Nvidia ahead?...

Waiting for a good review, a real one.

wow all the time and effort that went into his review and all you guys can do is complain?

Maybe he wanted to compare out of the box experiences, and since they were so far apart he went to release drivers, or it is possibly a typo. Either way it was his prerogative to choose, and regardless, it is still an informative look at the 480.

Err, the review is to give people an idea of current performance between the GPU's, using three month out of date drivers make this review invalid IMO.

while I get your take, it can be resolved with basic math. If ATI got a 10-15% increase, is it really that hard to "figure" the 10.3 numbers?

One thing is " figure " and another totally different is see the real diference, not " figure "....

I'm not here to defend W1zzard or his results.

I just think you all are being really harsh on his work, this type of thing isnt done in an hour, but with a few days of his time.

All the info is there.
If it is a simply typo, you all are way out of line.
If he did use those drivers, the information is still worth its weight (as basic math isn't out of my realm of figuring logic). Saying its worthless in any way is over the top in any case, and thats where I leave this thread.

That doesnt even account for the time and dedication it takes to give you a review on time for release, and keep a site up giving you a place and the freedom to slam him and his views;)

Its misleading simply put.

Found great conclusion about the 480 on bit-tech XD
"Yes, the GTX 480 offers great performance in our test games, especially in Dirt 2 and Bad Company 2, but compared to the competition, it doesn't make a strong enough case for itself, especially when you consider that there are just so many caveats involved with buying this card. The higher price, the 100W of extra power consumption, scorchingly hot temperatures and a much noisier stock cooler are all extremely detrimental to its desirability. The HD 5870 remains a far better choice if you're a gamer; while we've yet to see how the GTX 480 performs with CUDA apps and Folding, at this stage Fermi looks like a flop."

Also sneeky, he published a review publically, we're all welcome to criticise it.

I can't believe many of those rumors are actually true!
The lists are below:
1. it is hotter and consumes more power
2. it is 10-15% faster
3. it has 480core not 512.

The one thing which is wrong is that power consumption. It is rated at 250watts not 298watts.

Overall, I'm disappointed. six months late and it is just a paper launch?

ATI will have a good answer for this card soon. a higher clocked 5870 can easily close the gap of the GTX480.
The only thing ATI has to realize is the tessellation performance of FERMI. ATI has to produce something with much faster on tessellation when the time comes.

Don't get me wrong, it's still an honest good review, but all other sites use the 10.3 drivers that have major performance boost for the 5850/70, hope it is an error.

I think, even lowering the frequences impossible to see a contender to the dual GPU 5970.

Anyway the performance crown is still go to nvidia.

You should read some other reviews

Its very close between 5870/480 according to other places, it depends on game really.

10.3 or not, ive never seen nvidia fail like that.

Using 250 watts instead of the 150w of the 5870

Second loudest card of all.

Goes up to 96C compared to the 65C of 5870 of which most come with custom cooling now.

If this card is selling for 500 dollars, the custom cooled 5870s are up to $70 cheaper...

Its sometimes faster and sometimes slower than the 5870, everything else isnt exactly in favor for the gtx480

I wonder how hot the card gets under intense sustained gaming... How long the chip can last down the road.

I'm just happy my Crossfire 4870's are still holding up well.

Needless to say, I wont be one of the many throwing my cash at this card.

and how would you see the DX11?

You know you have to change GPU's. :p
