nothing happens with external monitor, there is no response from the netbook to the monitor itself, i read something about it possibly being a power issue but im not sure what would cause this to happen.

a different ac adapter does nothing.

Just an update, in case anyone ever searches for this topic because their own computer does this.

with the hp mini netbook the inverter is built into the motherboard or something so to truly diagnose this issue you will need to obtain the different involved parts (motherboard, screen assembly...) to do a trial and error method of determining the issue and this will mean left over extra un-needed parts which will need to be returned (more than likely).

.

not sure if you'd have to enable it in the control panel (maybe someone else here will know;))

as for the inverter they are usually easy to diagnose problems with because even if they are built in the circuit will usually only contain a small transformer a ferrite choke 2 transistors
(which usually crack when they break)1-3 resistors and a small control transitor (not always present)

good luck with it anyways :)
