5850's xfire with 5870?

Question's in the title. I read about people crossfiring 5970 with 5850 but you can never be sure what's real or not.

I've got a 5850 and another coming soon as well as a 5870 on the side.

So can a 5850 xfire with a 5870? Can two 5850's xfire with a 5870?

I'm trying to sell the 5870 locally but no real good bites so I figure if it'll work, might as well have some fun with it.

Oh, and... If it could work, could the pcp&c 910 handle it?

Yes to all but reviews/articles I've seen when crossfiring a 5850 and 5870 showed some games having worse performance than when two 5850's are crossfired. That's why I got rid of the 5850 Vapor-X.

So you mean to say a 5870 + 5850 gets less performance than 5850 + 5850 right? That makes sense but a 5870 and a 5850 should still likely be better than a 5870 and two 5850's and a 5870 should do even better than a pair of 5850's?

From what I've seen of the 5xxx and 4xxx series when you Crossfire two similar cards, the configuration performs exactly the same as two of the lower end cards. So in this case your 5870 and 5850 in Crossfire would perform like two 5850's. There may be instances when this type of configuration is slower, but it's usually less than a 5% difference.

Not really thought, even in crossfire the cards dont clock down, and if that was the case using a 5850 with a 5970 would be pointless, hehe and not giving me a 10K boost in vantage p

Absolutely it is the case that Crossfire with dissimilar cards results in all cards performing at the speed of the slowest card.

It works slightly different with the 5970 since the 5970 is a dual-GPU card. It will still run all the GPUs at the speed of the slowest, but you will have 3 GPUs instead of 2, which even at the slower speed will result in increased performance, especially in Vantage.
