3870 and GTA 4

Hey, Anyone else every tried GTA 4 on this card? I got it in crossfire, But no matter if it crossfire or not, I got these odds lag only when I turn a car I can move the mouse and have a stable fps of about 40-50 And the soon I use the key to turn (A and D in my case), It lags and freezes for 1-2 seconds. Forward and backwards is no problem.

that doesnt sound like video card to me, I used to have a 3870 x2 which i ran gta4 on, and never had such issue. Try patching the game to its latest version perhaps?

I suppose I could try and figure out how to do that.

Edit: After some time messign with getting my "game tag" linked I gave it up, everytime it just says "A live gametag was not found" tryed 2 differents ID's now.

I know what you mean when you say, slight lagging when turning.. I get it with twin 5870s when I run GTA IV at 5760x1080 and higher settings. I believe it has something to do with not having enough ram to process loading everything as you drive by. When I play at normal 1920x1080p I have zero issues.

Yap. GTA4 eats RAM like the Cookie Monster eats.. well, cookies.

It eats a hell lot of VRAM, that is the memory on your cards
Even if you have a pair 3870 1GB in crossfire, they only counts as 1GB effectively.

I think the only way is to lower the view distance or something along those lines.

On the other hand, it looks like you get some kind of problem in your original post?

Support or not, GTA4 is just badly written period.
It runs like crap on many nVidia cards as well.

I tried the lowest resolution aswell, my 3870 card(s) are the standart ATI once with 512MB, I tried in crossfire and without crossfire.

EDIT: I ran the benchmark inside GTA, and it gave me a overall FPS of 50, But the soon I enter the game, It laggs, Only when I turn the car . .

Had exact same problem on Win7 64 and this helped me
"the only service you have to disable is Windows event log, and this strange lag is gone. So, use windows key + R, type msconfig, go to services, disable Windows event log, apply, ok, restart computer."

Thanks, turning off that service actually fixed it, Somehow .. Anyways, Thanks
Still having some small lags but I blame my cards for that, makes me feel better as I think I know what's wrong

No worries Kof!, turning that service off fixed it completely for me with crossfire 4850s, so the remaining lag is likely due to your cards!

Yeap, Just need some moar money to get a better card, Neither, Am I gonna upgrade my card(s) just to play 1 game When I begin to see some more issues in different games, then I will think about something new.
