PSU Advice/opinion

Finally got around to buy stuff that's available here.
New rig:
Giga UD7
i7-920
HD 5850
Antec 902
Silverstone Strider 600w
Asus DVD sata
HDD Undecided but only 1

Would the 600w Silverstone power this configuration (consider option to add another 5850 if budget would allow)?

If not there is a 700+w Silverstone psu and a 720w Gigabyte. Unfortunately those are the ones available here.

I think I speak for a majority when I say; Corsair, Corsair, Corsair and Corsair. lol.

The HX750 or 850 will be perfect, especially for crossfire (I had two power hungry 4800's with this thing).

Silverstone is a good brand, second only to Corsair, imho.

Is it the ST60F? It has dual 32A 12v rails and is modular.
ST60EF is the same but not modular. Both will be large enough.

Unfortunately there is no Corsair available on the store where I got these stuff... Plus it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack if your up to good branded pc components.

id suggest a 650 watt corsair Pc Power & cooling silver stone or antec any of those brands will run your setup and 2 5850s

rougly an i7 overclocked with 2 5850s overclocked will hit around 500-550 watts load 600 watts is cutting it close due to capacitor aging id suggest a 750watt simply because it will allow you more breathing room for longer but that 600w should handle it but again a full overclocked system would be cutting it close

note i7 and dual 5850s were just used as reference stand ins point being i dont like cutting it that close to the limit

Hehe thank you for your input, unfortunately this will be chugging along @ stock due to the extreme costs of parts here and availability and also count in the very hot summer we are having right now lol. xD

I'd say 850W+ if you're interested in future-proofing, otherwise a 750W should be the lowest you'd go.

well overclocking dosent hurt hardware when done right say my phenom 940 its max SAFE longterm voltage stated by amd is 1,5 volts yet its default voltage is 1.35 as long as i keep it under 60'c there is no problem if you dont overclock your fine :toast:

altho not wanting to get the most of your hardware baffels me on occasion after all depending on your cpu theres usually room to overclock on the STOCK voltage ie q9550 = 9650 or 9750 or w.e or a i7 920 = 940 phenom II 945 3ghz hitting 3.4 and thus equal to a 965 :toast:

just tossing that out there.

and 750 from a good brand is more then enough running a PCP&C 750 with everything overclocked and 2 5850s 3 hdds 2 dvd drives 8 120mm fans 1 140mm and 1 230mm fan all red led etc etc 750-850 is the good sweet spot for a PSU.. as you also want more wattage then you need for efficiencies sake and to make sure it provides good clean stable power (lower quality brands u need to pay close attention and they need higher wattage to give the same clean stable power as a sturdy name brand psu

Personally I would go with the Hx750, as I believe it is modular, if it doesnt matter and money is tight, go for the TX version

The HX is the new monster from Corsair. They have won a lot of awards for the HX. Modular is the way to go anymore. Allows you to use the cables that you need. Great cable management can come from a modular PSU.

Seems pretty solid plus it is 80+Silver certified and plenty of amps, you just loose modularity.

The HX750w is awesome, the HEC 700w is junk, and the TX750 is in between (although far closer to the HX750 than the POS HEC). You'll definitely be fine with either of those Corsairs with 2xHD5850 and an i7 (even with some pretty insane overclocking)

Reason I ask, Most of their newer Toughpower Psu's are Bronze 80plus Cert.

Haven't seen it personally but thru a phone call and he says it's modular too... So it's ok also? It's a bit cheaper than the corsair.
