Alright so i opened up a computer, vacuumed it out and removed the HDD because it crashed. I backed up the HDD and reconnected it. Now the Motherboard (Asus A8V Deluxe socket 939) will not recognize the HDD. The HDD is a SATA. An IDE is recognized by the motherboard.

There is a promise RAID controller built into the motherboard that is supposed to mess things up but even after that is disabled still no HDD recognition.

When promise controller is enabled it shows an error message saying the BIOS is not installed when disabled it just shows there is no HDD

your wasting your time with that setup. the only real place to get 939 boards these days is on ebay or if some throws an old machine in the trash.

& it might not even be that board thats faulty - it could just be the hard drive

that same HDD boots on a different computer with no problems. I just dont have another Sata drive to test on the messed up computer. I am not personally using this pc it is for someone else who asked for help and they dont need anything more advanced.

if they dont need anything more advanced then just leave them with an ide setup instead of sata. save yours/their money

it makes perfect sense. if all they use the system for is internet, music & some movies then they wont really need anything else - the 939 era is long gone.
