Hey guys, I'm from India and I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB DDR 3 and I'm thinking of upgrading to a GeForce GTS 250 512MB DDR3 as it seems like the only good card within my budget which is Rs. 7000 (USD 150). Any suggestions are welcome.

It's a good card. Another option to look at is the HD4850. Ordering off the net or purchasing locally?

$150 is overpriced.

GTS250 = 9800GTX+

You should look for a used 9800GTX+ which you can find for $80-100.

Where are you locate?

Why not a 5770? How much is in india?

I am from India too and I look at deltapage.com for pricing. I see a 4770 for Rs.6400 which is good card and sometimes as good as or better than 4850. Only thing is it doesn't have DX11 features if that is ok with you.

You were smart to buy the 512mb version of the 2600XT. I think it would be smart this time to buy a 1gb model. Like suraswami said a 5770 or a 5750.

HD 5770 is USD 205 here in India and is absolutely out of my budget. Thanks for the help though.

Hi, I look at deltapage for pricing too. The problem is that my ati card has gone bust and i need to get one asap with the money i have now, also, i'm not happy with the fact that there is no PhysX for ati cards,...there also seem to be driver issues for the mid-range ati cards, which is why i was thinking of going for nvidia. What say you ?

Hey, I'll be purchasing locally and was told that a GTS250 cost Rs.6950 (about USD 140), also, i was thinking of switching to nvidia cause there seems to many features in games that are exclusive to nvidia cards...

So the 4850 is a no go then huh? If you must get something, the GTS250 is a good card considering your locale and price.

Thank you, appreciate the help. I could probably manage to get the MSI make 1GB GTS250 for USD 25 more, is that significantly better and worth the extra price ?

Hey all, one more thing, I need to get the new card in the next couple of days cause my current graphics card is bust. Isn't it better to go in for a mid range nvidia card due to the lack of PhysX for ATI cards and also the general driver issues tht keep popping up..Also there is the concern for extra power, i currently have a 450 W PSU and will probably have to get a new one if i get an ATI card in the higher 4 or 5 series right ?..i could probably go upto Rs.8500 (USD 180). Please advice.

First.. if u want to enable PhysX and Max settings, u need a high end card and Nvidia Needs a lot of power and

even a 8800 wont run if your SMPS is under 500W (pure, not the one you buy for 600 or 700 Rs :)) .

and if not. Driver will give a message that the cable to the card is not connected:)

you have to go for ATI and dont talk about driver problems anymore. its all over.

No i haven't noticed any problems with the games i play, im also running a dodgy resolution because im using 2x 17inch screens, most games hold 60FPS untill lots starts to happen, then it drops to around 40fps but thats good enough for me personly. I have a crappy 750watt PSU and want to upgrade to, and the nice people on here all recomend a good 650watt PSU.

I run games @2688/1024.

The only game that droped below 30fps that i have is colin mcrea dirt 2 but i dident expect that to run mega high FPS.

i will get a single screen soon tho and play at 1920/1080.

Current games i play.

race driver grid
dirt 2
batman AA
flatout ultimate carnage
