In windows 7 how do you disable CCC and Mom.exe services? I want to use ATI Tray Tools only.

You can also disable it via Tune Up's startup settings, or from any other program for Windows start-up folder/registy management.

Don't install the CCC when installing the drivers.

Or delete CCC only,

+Don't forget to always remove Tray Tools before a driver removal! Or you might run into compatibility problems. You can keep some of it's settings but you need to tick others again. And installing it back after drivers are installed OFC.

ATI/AMD website has it so you can download the drivers only. That's what i do.

I have already installed the drivers, I just wanted CCC disabled is all on this laptop, since the laptop doesn't support OC through CCC. ATI Tray tools works for it, OC from 351/297 to 459/416.

You will find CCC in MSConfig > Startup, simply disable it there, you are correct in that it does not show under Processes or services, just make sure that in your services "AMD External Events utility" remains active otherwise you will lose performance.

It's all done, yes I know about those 2 services aswell, they seem to be core driver services, they have been around since the day of Windows 98. Anyways I used MSconfig to kill CCC- which in turn kills MOM.exe. Its just weird how these services is not found in services.msc.

why do you elite's advice something like 'msconfig' hell get a 'autoruns'. works to see a bit other stuff as well.

as for the question > remove all ATI software > launch the 'driver only install' > let it extract > close the installer > open device manager > update the ATI GPU in 'Display adapters' manually from 'C:\ATI\Packages\Drivers\Display\<your system> > use ATI Tools tray with clean driver only.

As for video decoding/encoding you'll want xcode/ATI AVIVO installed (same extract the ATI EXE will be at 'C:\ATI\Packages\Apps\AVIVO'/'64').

one thing newfellow, it is built into windows and doesnt require additional HD space, 2 I have already disabled CCC, and prefer to have it in as a backup. CCC isn't that bad like people claim it to be. Just that it is not 100% compatible with my video as overclocking is not available through it (Probably needs I2C)

ROFL at Autoruns 3RD party software for start-up programs how elite... LMAO that's the easiest way of doing it and I already said it in another way. They advice msconfig coz it's built in to Windows and does it's job most of the time. As long as you know executable names, you don't need another program. But doing it from a special software for it is easier hence it lists stuff w/ their complete names and explanations. That's why I use Tune Up for that. If you wanna go elite, open up registry or Windows folders, then delete/deactivate things from there LOL. Like there's any point in it msconfig is just fine dude.

You don't need to delete it all like he said. As I told you, you can just remove CCC and keep display drivers. CCC is not sth you need to keep as "backup". All it does is driver side tweaks. It's sitting disabled there wasting space actually. ATT emulates CCC plus it adds tens of more settings for tweaking. But it's sucks for OCing IMO. It's a program for driver settings, not overclocks. That OC section of ATT looks like crap and it's bugged IIRC.

I suggest GPU Tool, I dunno whether it'll work or not with your card but it's much better for overclocking.

Oh and that notebook is a gem, those hardware used to be best of their time look after it carefully heh.

I am going up on folders and registrys, but I ain't explaining 6 registry entries to be deleted, 30 files from system + folders in %programfiles% and %appdata% as what goes to elitism if you aren't aware we use fastest tools there is to get the job done properly 'autoruns' is one of those tools.

msconfig is bullshit toy from microsoft 'autoruns' is MS owned sysinternals toy for seeing everything I don't think anyone should be ever advice really to use msconfig over an real reveal start up tool (hell, you cannot even see all AMD/ATI entries through msconfig to remove) and yes I do consider 'autoruns' to be elite tool in every sense laught as much you want you can show me any other real tool like it is.

@eidairaman1

Use AMD GPU Clock Tools should work for clocking where MSI Afterburner/ATT/etc style tools fails.

I have been using ATi Tray tools since it was established and it does work for the laptop I have, I used to do UT 2004 runs and I would get higher Frames when the GPU was at 459/416 over 351/297. Only difference for ATI Tray Tools is during setup you have to enable the old I2C technique for my card. MS Config is a quick means of disabling stuff but its not as intuitive as services.msc.

Also I appreciate all the stuff you have suggest but I have fixed the issue I had by using what is built into Windows.

Helper- Yes for its time it was a High End laptop- Hell atleas't I don't have to worry about it overheating compared to today's laptops with Core 2 and i7 CPUs. It runs Windows 7 just fine. Course it is a Desktop replacement machine as well.

Well, I'm not saying msconfig is awesome. It does what it's supposed to do and it comes with Windows. Other tools are more compact like we both said. That doesn't make msconfig BS. You didn't get it, it's not like guy A who uses msconfig is a nub and autoruns user guy B is elite. In fact, guy B is usually a weaker Windows user coz he does the things he could do thou Windows tools with other software. Msconfig is a real startup tool and you can see every start-up entry from it. Those programs don't list things msconfig do not show. They just show them via their program files names so it becomes easier for you. You can see those CCC entities from msconfig and your so called "real" start-up tools are coded for the people who can't do same job from msconfig on first place.

In his case it was a little bit pointless to delete CCC's startup files rather then removing CCC itself to open up space on HDD-take out unnecessary items from your registry. And when I had high CPU usage problem with HDMI audio I remember deleting HDMI R.exe from msconfig and closing HD audio in Device Manager rather then doing it with another program. If you still wanna hear about a program like yours then try start-ups of Tune-Up Utilities. Oh and nearly everything in Tune-Up could be done from Windows. You go on believing in those programs are more elite LOL.

I'm not sure you understand... I didn't say ATT is crap. It's great and it has no equivalent, excluding Nhancer for Nvidia cards. Since it got carried for lots of years it has become the best ATi tweaking program nowadays. But it's crap for "overclocking". That's not what it's for, either. It's OC section GUI sucks and fan control/volt settings etc didn't work properly on my HD 2900 CF setup. It changed settings on it's own or didn't set them to what I wanted on the first place. Other then that, everything else worked great those advanced settings, the ability to CF from it or forcing mip-maps. I couldn't do without it.

I only recommend using sth else for OCing knowing from my exp with it. That's where GPU Tool comes in. It's better for OCs, period.
