How do you like your 470 gtx cards, do you think the fan is loud, is the card too hot and are you sorry you bought this card over any other out there. What I don't want is any arguements or flame baiting. I would like to hear from the people who own these cards and I'm not intrested in the whole AMD vs Nvidia arguement. What I want is feed back based soley on the product. Why because I'm going to build a new system for a friend and want the impute in a unbias way. I know all about the 5850, 5870 etc but haven't owned a 470 gtx. I might be doing the SLI or Crossfire set up aswell this will be going on a 50 inch lcd screen.

well i don't own a 470 but i can tell you 2 things from owning a 480 its a really good card just want i though it would be, temps on loads are around 73c so im guessing the 470 would be abit lower, and for the fan being loud it runs at nearly 5000RPM on 100%, what fan wouldn't been loud at that speed it never gets near that high when gaming.

Thx had a 480 gtx my self but was wondering how the 470 gtx performs with less cores reading a review is nice but hearing it directly from TPU owners is much better. The bias is generally removed. When I say performs , I mean heat ,power and fan etc!!!! Some say the 470 gtx was supposed to be the orginal top end card and clocked higher, but then the 480 gtx was born.

Trt I love mine! Both are Evga standard clocked cards in SLI. When I first got them I was a bit put off with the noise level of the fan at full load. 80% fan is quite loud for two cards. The temps I saw were close to 90C at load. Pretty standard for today's highend gpu's.

I did choose to watercool both the cards and the preform phenomenally!!! Overvolted and overclocked temps still dont see 50C. I've got the Swiftech MCW 80 w/G80 bracket. And both run straight from a PA 120.2 radiator. The overclocking power of the 470 really is it's saving grace.

The pair of cards really pushes alot of processing power, but also will stress a quality PSU. I can easily feel the temp of the PSU go up when these are running furmark or vantage. So it's a trade off, high heat output, high power consumption, but excellent graphical experience.

I can play Metro 2033 in 1920x1200 at Very High settings with 3xAA and 16AF with DX11 and Tesselation on as well. I'm not sure how the Ati's hold up, but I'd have to do some research before I put my foot in my mouth.

Hands down best purchase I've made this year. Definitely would buy them again. :rockout:

Now thats what I want to hear and I don't mean because he posted a favorable statement. I mean his content was spot on. Is the fan loud for you because you left it on 80 percent all the time , I'm wondering because my 480 gtx wasn't loud at all and it might be my case muffling it more than others. I did use a fan profile and it never reached 80 percent, 70 percent but not 80. The reason I ask is water won't be a option here.

At over 45dB(100% fan) per card, it is loud imo.

Many people did note that replacing the thermal paste gave significant temp drops(5º+).

The fan profile is something that I've noticed alot of people talking about. Many people have said that a custom fan profile is much better than stock. So it sounds like you've got the right mind set already.

I like my GTX470, I got it through the eVGA Step-Up program, and I'm not totally sure if I'm going to keep it yet or get rid of it.

I don't think the fan is loud, but it certainly is audible, but I've gotten use to the screaming of an HD4890, so to me the GTX470 fan is quiet.

I don't believe the card is too hot, but it certainly is warm, I have Afterburner set to ramp the fan speed up from 40%@40°C to 100%@80°C, and while gaming it definitely hits 80°C, usually sitting right over that in the 81-82° area(depending on how hot the room is, it is summer here.)

Am I sorry I bought the card? Well, as I said, I got it through an eVGA Step-Up, so I didn't have much choice. However, had I bought the card outright, I don't believe I would be sorry I spent the $350, but It would have been really hard to pick it over the HD5850, I'm not sure the extra $40-50 is really worth it.

I recently bought an EK-FC 470 block for my EVGA. I installed just like the directions said, filled my loop and ran a leak test.. After setting it up to my monitor I got the artifacts everywhere.. I guess I didn't do enough homework. I didn't panic, I knew exactly what it was. I fortunately had a 120x120 thermal pad that I cut up and put on the bottom of the metal bracket that surrounds the Nvidia chip(it was grounding out the pcb), unfortunately that meant I had to drain my loop and reinstall the block.. but.. Viola... 30c idol, 40c full load.. i7 40c all day, same loop. ;)

I've got an EVGA 470. At every fan speed, it is quieter than my reference 5850's were. Actually, I find it to be a superior card to my 5850's in every way, except heat. Plus, after Bing cashback it was cheaper than both of my XFX 5850's were.

Nope, just one. Decided against a second. No need, and I don't really do a ton of gpu benching these days beyond when I first get hardware.

I've had a 5850 and a 5870, and I must say I hate this 470. It's way too loud under load for my tastes. That's my main gripe about it. Heat isn't all too important to me, but the effing noise! This guy's getting returned once I find a good deal on a 5850.

I wonder , not being funny here but many people don't find it loud at all and some do, heck even Paul said his seemed less loud than his 5850, could this be a bad fan or maybe not as sound proof of a case. Thx for your post . oh here is a 5850 deal lowest I have seen in a while and the fan is quiet. http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=124316

Perhaps Paul's 5850 had a bad fan? Both my 5850's are pretty quiet, I leave them at their stock fan settings with 940/1200 clocks. I don't hear them at all, my Xigmatek fans make more noise.

I'd love to try a 470 or 480. But neither would have the performance of my two 5850's and I have no ability to use SLi. Even if I did have the ability to use SLi, going by what sneekypeete said I wouldn't want to try running them on a 850 watt PSU.

It could be and he had two 5850. All I can say is my 480 gtx wasn't near as loud as the stock cooler on the 5870's and 5850's I had, atleast when they were past 33 percent. Also no you don't want to run two on a 850 watt power supply I can vouch for that. Now two 5850 are no problem and indeed great but are more money than a single 480gtx and I am not going that route, however, a single 5850 might be in the cards for this build but thats for another thread. I'm trying to limit the ATI vs Geforce thing. I'm trying to decide currently on a 470 gtx or 5850 for a friends build. I know all about the 5850 and like it a bunch but want to hear about the 470 gtx.

Well this was an Open Box one, but it looked pretty mint to me. And as far as quietness of a case...well...umm...I'm running a techstation :D

I think Pauls is a tech station as well very strange. I think there was a bios update on some 400 gtx cards but that should not effect fan thats set by the owner, not sure whats up here. I have seen some people say there 400 gtx cards sound like lawn mowers and other are fine. I wonder what the radical difference is.I for one hate loud fans. Let me clarify I more than hate loud fans. I won't buy a card with one. I think W1zzards was loud in his review but mine wasn't at all and W1zzard isn't bias. E you and Danish need to trade cards.

I have an EVGA GTX 470 (overclocked to 480 speeds).

And for me, the temps aren't so bad(though i have a 120mm Noctua fan on my side panel blowing right on top of it), but is definitly not the coolest running card around. All other cards i have owned before this card i could keep the fan speed in the low 40% or high 30%. But with this card it really needs to be at the 50% mark at least for me to have it idle at comfortable temps. At 100%, it's loud as hell and at 80% it's still loud as hell. But for me around the 75% fan speed mark is nice, keeps the card cool and my ears don't have to bleed. The performance is awesome, saw a very nice increase in performance from my 5770, running the Heaven benchmark my frames doubled from 23 frames to a whopping 46.7 frames. Overall it does tend to be hotter then your average card, but the performance is worth it for a little heat.(imo)

I wonder, Danish is a straight shooter as is Paul, I bet some of these cards have different fan blades, similar but different, but are still ref design. Sounds crazy but so does this issue. My 480 gtx fan sounded similar to the 200 gtx series fans I owned and they didn't seem loud.

Was using two 9600GT's, a Recertified XFX PV-T96G-YHF Single-Slot, and a MSI N9600GT-T2D512-OC Dual-Slot, the XFX would IDLE at about 54c (35% Fan Speed), but would never go over 68c (52% Fan Speed). The GTX 470 I have is quieter than my XFX card at IDLE and at LOAD.

Fan IDLE’s at 40% (1400RPM's), highest LOAD is about 70% (2950RPM's) @ Stock fan settings. This typically keeps the card at 50c IDLE and about 88c LOAD, lowest temp was 42c, and highest temp was 93c. At 70% you can start to hear the fan more easily.

My overall performance doubled in games, Crysis, Batman Arkham Asylum, Metro 2033, Aliens vs. Predator, etc..

For me the card was worth the money, as it stands right now.
Though right now you can find some as low as 320, newegg had 5 for 330 a few weeks ago, like the MSI they have for $330 now.

I thikn it probably just down to people setups and the difference between personal preference as to what is "loud" and what isn't.

I have mine in an enclosed case under my desk. I don't consider it "loud", but it is audible, and I know to some anything audible is "loud" to them. I had the side panel off the other day, with the computer up on my desk doing a little work on it, and I definitely heard the fan when I was running furmark. Again, I've been using an HD4890, with a screaming loud fan also, so the GTX470 is plesent in comparison.

I'll say, compared to my GTX260 and GTX285, the fan is about the same noise level.
