[WTB][EU] VRM Heatsinks for HD4870 reference design.

But I lack VRM cooling if I do put it on, tried it with them naked and the temps weren't good.

As you can see, the back plate doesn't connect with the gpu block, so in theory the back plate was passively cooling the vrm's and memory with a little air moving near it.

Edit: I have one that I had to hack off a bit to fit it under an AC Twin Turbo, if you want it, I can send it to you.

Unfortunately thats been discontinued.

the only item left that etailers seem to have plenty of are these Thermalright VRM/R1's but they are very costly & IMHO not worth the price.

your better off trying to bag yourself a dead 4870 from somewhere & use theirs if not - get some Zalman or Arctic Cooling RAM chip heatsinks & stick them on - they should work fine so long air is flowing over them

I used the Zalman chips to cool the VRMS on a 8800GTS 512 - I sold it to a friend & its still alive n kicking & running 9800GTX+ clocks.

I'm more after a strip Inioch posted. As you can see though I have very little room to fit anything under the Akasa. It's probably about 1cm clearance so that Zalman is no good.

I'll have a look for custom cooled ones instead.

@inioch: Did that strip work well? What sort of temps were you looking at with it? Can it work almost passively?

The Akasa doesn't cool vrms with the tiny little holes under fan although it claims it can, so that's why I'm checking.

Obviously if I can't find something suitable it will have to go back to the shop.

I can't recall any spesific temps, but the TT was blowing straight at it like so:

They were definitely under 100c which is better than I got with the stock cooler.

Maybe ~80-90c, can't really recall and don't have any screens from that time.

Stock cooler keeps them at below 80c.

Are they push pins for the strip and did you use any tim/paste or tape?

My stock cooler kept them at a steady 100-110c when using reasonable fan speed. They are push pushpins and really easy to install. I also used a bit of tim in between like it said in the manual.
