I went for the Corsair 950w because it was "relatively" cheap . That setup of yours eats A LOT of juice.

I would go with the 950w corsair as well, and I did, and ill never use anything less.. it gives you what you need especially if your going to run the dual 4870x2's like i am doing and want the extra room to grow... its a great buy

HX 850 or if you can wait AX750 are great choices. The enermax 850W that was suggested before is also great. Many of the seasonics are also great. I would, however, recommend the XFX 750W or HX850W

I am an owner of the HX850. but the XFX 750W was the PSU I was going to buy until I got a good deal on the HX850.

I am an owner of the HX850. but the XFX 750W was the PSU I was going to buy until I got a good deal on the HX850.

Corsair AX Series PSUs seem to be very nice. They have 80+ Gold label. And they are fully modularized. But I can't wait any longer because my system is -I believe- under the danger of burning of exploding with the High Power Absolute 750W. It just can't provide enough power for the two 4870X2. But, Thanks anyway for the advice.

Wait? Two HD4870x2s? Don't get anything less than 900w, in fact I wouldn't get anything less than 1000w. The HD4870x2 is probably one of the few cards that eats more juice than a GTX480, and a lot more juice at that.

this is why I suggested the TX850w corsair PSU it has MORE than enough power to take them on trust me . with the 70AMP 12v rails . It can put out the power needed to drive them cards no problem . I do not think a 1000w PSU is needed .

I've got the HX850, the modular version of the TX850, and while it is a damn good PSU, and yes the 70a on the 12v rails is nice, but his two cards can pull well over 650w by themselves. I wouldn't feel comfortable running the rest of the system on only 200w.

Funny thing I have this PSU and not only was I able to run my tech WB ( 225w peltier ) but my entire computer as well with out fail . ( well till the tech WB wires heated to the melting point that is ) I am not saying that you are wrong just saying that I think a 1000w psu is just over kill . I would venture to guess that the video cards even if you ran them BOTH like you say would have a hard time reaching that 650w mark and keep it there . Man that is sure a ton of wattage just for 2 video cards .

Well it is actually 4 graphics cards, essentially, and I know for a fact that a single HD4870x2 can pull 380w by itself when maxed out, of course when in crossfire the second card tends to pull a little less than the first, so 650w for both is a decent assumption.

And I'm sure the 850w would run the system for a while, but with such little headroom I worry its fate might end like his current 750w.

corsair 850 on the quadfire, for sure.

as a 4870 crossfire owner i can state that the cards use 150W maximum EACH. he has four of em, so 600W theoretical max (things like furmark) for the GPU's alone. 250W left over for the rest of his system should be fine in a normal config, and even if he gets closer to the 850W mark we know corsair under-rate their PSU's (it'll actually run stable at 850W for years, unlike most brands)

well I looked on that highpower website, says there is not 750w absolute power but the 700w one is rated at a maximum of 702w at 25a on 2 rails, theres your problem m8 its chincy get anything with 1 high amp rail or 2 rails with pretty high amps you'll be good, the corsair and seasonic are both rated less than what they can handle.

PCP&C. rated at what they really put out. They include a test sheet with the PSU too!

ran 4850X2's a phenom X6@4.4ghz and water cooling on my thermaltake CWT built 850w without an issue and i previously had a 4870X2 and 4850X2 in xfire on this same PSU again no issues.

w1z measured the entire system's power draw and it was only 385w with the cpu board HDD etc

even doubling that he is still good with the 850w

This is more than enough IMHO .
Like I said before I had this running my Swiftech MCW6500-T-775 Thermoelectric CPU Liquid Cooling Block that has a 226.1 W peltier , the system took only 600w total ! so with that said I would say even with 4 cards ( the PSU has all the PCI-E connectors as well ) it should run just fine . But if you feel that more is needed by all means get a 1000w PSU , But I do not think you will find one as good a quality for $129.00 dollars .

remember how these threads go you have to buy a corsair or you are dumb and ostracized and if you are running more than a p4 and onboard graphics nothing under 1000watts will work
