my friend gave me a asrock A785GXH/128M should i put it in my system or keep my asus crosshair II formula in my system? look at my specs and tell me which is better.

I'd stick with the ASUS Crosshair II Formula. But if you choose to go with the ASRock, you could always sell the ASUS, I'd buy it if it weren't for the Nvidia chipset.

Well, the ASRock mobo is slightly newer, and has a AMD/ATi chipset, but the ASUS mobo is the better choice if you play on SLI later on.

I stand to be corrected but afaik Asus and AsRock are manufactured by the same company (ie Asus). They sell the higher quality in the Asus name and the lower quality in the AsRock name....
That should answer your main question.

However the only issue I have with AsRock is that over time the pci-e slot (or AGP if it's an old mobo) tends to start playing up. I have 2 computers currently which occasionally refuse to boot up the OS, until I remove the graphics card, reseat it, then they boot up as if there had been no problem.

You should think of Asrock as cheaper, budget brand. But keep in mind:

1./ There is no evidence of lower quality components
2./ The performance of asrock is often just as good as ASUS
3./ There are often interesting niche designs coming out of Asrock
4./ It is consumer focused and you will not see enterprise or server design on Asrock

Net, net, if you are building a low-budget rig, you may do better with Asrock. But if you want server class designed MB, go with ASUS. I have both ASUS and Asrock.

True Dat, in many cases, you may just dip out on a couple of features and perhaps have a more limited (read less tweaking options) in the Bios.

While ASRock did start out as a lower end point for Asus to compete in the lower end entry market, the company has rather consistently out done is direct competition (ECS and Foxconn) and gain enough momentum to provide some very nice mid-range boards and a few high end boards that are just as good as Asus primary line IMO.

Like Mussels said, whatever you did, do it again and get his RAM and build a not HTPC out of this cool free stuff.

Asrock has since the 939 dual sata been a good overclocker,they also keep up on the bios updates,IF theres a problem.I'm running the 890fx,It smokes my DFI and has just as many bios options.The 1090t actually works with the asrock under CnQ and turbo AND you can turn both off separately and they actually turn off.Not familiar with that mobo as I usually stick to DFI,but my old Asrock 939 is still being used at 3.0 gig with an opty 148.

If so Id sell it, no point using it as it OCs horribly, runs hot, and the TLB bug.
