Its name is Association Football and its the worlds most popular sport not just Europe but Africa, South America even Asia to a certain extent.
I dont know why the USA just didnt take up Rugby instead of making up a sport that's ripped it off.
I thought Americans where over this, they actually have a half decent team they topped the group you where in. Its popular at grass roots but the College System for sports kills it. In football everywhere else you have lower division teams rather than "College" teams.
WTH are you on about?! I just said that Americans know the freaking difference! We know it's the worlds most popular sport, we are told this all the freaking time with this large, multinational media machine. As for the Rugby thing.. We're Americans for crying out loud! Of course we have to put our sports stars in lots of colourful (<-- Spelled just for you
) flamboyant jerseys and pads. Bigger, stronger, bulkier, it's the American way, and it's the way we like it. We like throwing things... At other countries and at our Wide Receivers. A man is judged by his arm in this country, it's been proven time and time again with the game baseball that we invented... erm.. slightly based on the game of cricket. Ok, fact of the matter is, we are different and have fun with it. Differences aren't a bad thing, it makes things more interesting. We all deal with it.
I like soccer. I like watching it and I enjoyed playing it when growing up. Yeah, we call it soccer, but it's the same game the rest of the world calls football. It's just a name and has little to no relevance with the actual game. I'm now off to play poker, which strangely has nothing to do with poking anyone and is played with cards.
Oh, like I said earlier, Germany is going to win.
Also, check this out, we have league football/soccer in the States as well.

http://www.mlssoccer.com/league/clubs - They have lower level teams, I know one of them plays in Milwaukee.
-I also have just realized that I've become "that American stooge" in a football/soccer thread.
...and please take this post as good spirited, because it is. It's meant to entertain, not offend.
