Administrative tools disappeared? (win XP)

Just noticed that my administrative tools in windows XP has gone, think reinstalling service pack 2 will restore it?

I should do, its only me that uses this computer, quiet annoying as there are certain startup processes that I want to disable.

I reinstalled windows XP a couple of days ago, I have a feeling that it is related:S

Are you sure you just haven't put it into the start menu programs list? Is it definitly now in the control panel?

Nope, it's definately missing, Iam reinstalling SP2 as I speak!

If you start up in safe mode and log in as administrator and look @ ur account priviledges, it sounds very iffy to me!

Darren? Humor me... look under your %WinDir%\system32 folder, & start clicking on & running the .msc shortcuts... they are REALLY what most of the "administrative tools" are anyhow...

All those do, anyhow, is "plug in" to mmc.exe... you can even create your OWN CUSTOM ONE, by adding them manually IF you run mmc.exe & start adding in the ones you like of those said .msc shortcut snapins to mmc.exe

(MMC.EXE = Microsoft Mgt. Console).

I wonder, can you just insert your OS CD & install it again? Have you tried this??

P.S=> There is something called the "Admin pack" iirc (adminpack.msi ??), as well, that MIGHT just be helpful here, but time passes & things get a bit "dim" as to the details on that, as installing it MAY get the default stuff back for you, but I am not 110% sure on this anymore either!

IF I can find a link to it? I will come back w/ it & the write up for it for you to check out, because for SOME reason, some 'nagging little faint memory' is telling me it can restore this for you, but this I won't commit to, unless I have SOLID data on it to show you... specifics on SOME stuff, does elude me in this massive field @ times & THIS, it's one of them! apk
