Pump Noise

Is the MCP 350 pump supposed to be kinda loud? Im not sure how loud it is supposed to be because I just filled my xspc dual bay res and checked for any leaking.

they will tend to be louder if air is trapped in the pump, but otherwise I wouldnt ecpect more than a hum.

Easy way to tell if it's air: you can usually turn off the pump for a few seconds, let the air bubbles raise out of the pump, then turn it back on. It should be quiet until the air gets back into the pump.

Fill, turn on, turn off, bleed, repeat...

Well I shut it off for a while and now I just turned it back on and it's all good, just a humming. Will post pics in other section after I'm done with sleeving this last PCIE 8 pin -__-

Well doh, I have a kink in my loop and I need to put in another 45 deg compression I just bought to fit on the RAD. What's the best way to do this, do I have to drain the entire loop?

I use one of these between my res and pump. One side from res, the opposite to pump. One other side to fillport and it's opposite to a drain plug.

The devil is in the details...

The other way to do it (since you probably don't already have one of those installed), is to unmount one of the blocks, pull it away from the system and remove one of the hoses from the barb it's connected to. I've done this a few times with the CPU block, since there is usually enough slack in the hoses to do so.

Ok, well I did what t ski advised and I fixed my kink. Now the problem is that I can see I have quite a btt of air bubbles inside my block, should I let the loop run for a while and it will bleed?

Yes, the bubbles will eventually make it to the res and if the coolant level stays higher than the res outlet, shouldn't go back to the pump to be recirculated.

It's weird because it looks as if there could b 2-3 more drops that could be added into the block, I tried to tip the case back a bit and squeezing the tubing near the block to see if the liquid can fill up that tiny little space but no luck

Don't forget to leave the top off of your res while bleeding your loop. It will relieve pressure and give the air someplace to go. If you take the cap off your res and it makes a "pssishh" noise, then it needed to be done.

Ohh ok yeah I left the top off. So I finished wire management to the max and put everything in and the panels, I plug it in my monitor/etc and I turn it on. Hmm something is wrong, I check the pump, and thats odd, there's no waterflow at all. The pump is moving but it's making a whirrring sound but no water is moving throughout the whole loop... I unplugged everything and did the paperclip trick to short out the PSU and just plugged in the pump and still the same thing, just a whirring sound but nothing else. what happened?

Unfortunately, I've got some negative news for you :/
Recently, I've built my first loop ever. I used XSPC dual bay res and MCP350 too.
The result was too loud for me to bear... :/

I'm not talking about air bubbles. Once the loop got stable it was still too loud due to vibration. I think, that placing the pump in 5 1/4" res is convenient, but loud, because the pump is rigidly attached and in front top of PC case.

I've decided to modify the loop, and went for a small acrylic MCP350 top, and mounted the pump on rubber suspension at the bottom of the case. I've changed XSPC dual res to simple single res (without pump).

Now I can't hear it. The loudest part in my PC now is that damn Velociraptor.


The shop was kind enough to allow me to return XSPC dual res and get money back.

Well.. ignore my rant. You're obviously having air bubble problem in your loop. Solve that first, and you may find the noise to be acceptable

Now to help you out...

If you can hear whirring sound (and I assume, you can see that the pump impeller is actually rotating), it means that there's too much air in the pump, so it can't build momentum in the liquid to start flow.

Try adding as much coolant as possible. Fill the res tothe top. Close it. Rotate the case (unplug all cables). Use gravity to make most of the air go to the res. Repeat the process.

if the sound is like "shhhhhhhhk" like some river flowing, its definitely air in the loop. Kepp you res top open and let it bleed.

If possible, tilt it where your res would be on top on all the components.

Ok, thanks robal that worked! The thing is it's only a temporary fix it comes back if I shutdown couple of times

Then repeat it. There may be more air still in the system.

Every time you get some air out, add coolant to keep the level high in the res. Just make sure the pump never catches more air from outside.

I noticed when I sat down and observed the waterflow, in time, the waterflow would slow and it would do the same thing. Makes me wonder if there is some air that is slowly building up.

Also, I'm not sure but am I supposed to be hearing any sound from the RAD like water running through, because a few minutes ago I would hear that from the RAD, now silence. All I hear is the humming from the pump, I don't even know if this is normal and there are no bubbles in the loop or what..

Eventually it should be only a slight humming sound from you pump and the sound of your spinning fans. Air in the loop makes the other noise. If you heard something from the rad, it's probably a small bubble working it's way out. No "running water" sounds should be heard.

Ohhhh lol, I always thought I should be hearing some form of water sound lol. Maybe my loop/rad/pump was working perfectly the whole time and I didn't know there shouldn't be any other sound but a humming and my fans spinning so I thought there was something wrong !
