About how much money do you have invested in you main computer tower? I'm not talking about how much it's worth, but how much you've actually paid to get all of it. I'm expecting to see a lot of you around the $1200 mark. And yes, just the PC, not including monitors, mice, desks, etc.

Just figured it up and I've got $1170 in mine. I got ripped on the E8400 and case so it really should be lower :shadedshu

Note: This thread isn't to gloat about what you can afford or to make people feel bad about what they can't. I was genuinely interested in how much you people spend on average.

My CPU was $980 alone, and that doesn't even touch the rest of the system :pimp:

Last time I was thinking about replacement costs, it was around $4500...

Originally, GIGA X58 X + Core i7 920 + Dual 8800GT's + Antec Quattro + DDR3 6GB (~$1800)

To Core i7 930 + GTX280/Dual 9800GTX+/GTX480 + Corsair HX1000

I have been taking huge losses selling off my old gears for new one.

Ex: Bought my dual 8800GT for $250 each, sold them for $80 each with new cooler on it! (DuOrb), lmao.

I make huge investment in my pc every 3-4 years and upgrade vga cards along the way, probably around 1-2 time a year. It depends on the deals.

Like I just bought my EVGA GTX480 for $360 brand new which was a really good deal. If that deal wasn't there I probably wait for another 6 months to upgrade.

$300.
optical drives, psu, 500gb hard drive were "handed down"
case - $40
250gb drive - $40
RAM - $60
vidya card - $70
board - $70
processor - Got it from my aunt, kinda. I built her a new pc, took her processor and gave her my old one. I paid $65 for the old processor, so $365 if you include that. Add $20 for the cooler.

I never had thought about how much it cost in total, you know. I actually answered the poll wrong!

Throw in some watercooling, which I didn't do this time, and I can easily see there are far more $4000 rigs out there than I thought! I guess Alienware and such other boutique builders are right in having models in this price range. Interesting...

I hate buying retail and spending money

I ran the numbers and my rig was under $1100 including the monitor ($900 w/o). A lot bought second hand here and the rest on sale retail (PSU from CL) :) If I were more patient I think I could have saved more.

If you start with a 1000$ computer, you WILL buy more parts. Oh this fan has better CFM, this cooler is better, this sound card is good... your rig just piles on the cash. It's an addiction that never stops. :D

Crap. Once I included my recycled parts, it got expensive. My wallet freaked out, slammed shut, and now I can't open it. :ohwell:

Not too much... maybe 700. I sold my original parts on craigslist and upgraded on that money alone, granted it wasn't a huge upgrade but it helped. Next upgrades are being ordered next week.

I had an e2180, an 8800gtx, and an oem epower psu.

^ def a plus when you can sell your old parts, just can't wait too long or else they loose their value. My figure lowers a lot if I consider the sale of my old rig too :)

Exactly I started out, with a fool proof plan for a cheap performance PC, but I ended up spending over 2500$ since I ended up wanting optimum Performance :p, Do i regret spending all of that money? Kinda, but did I enjoy the experience I got from it? H3ll Y4 :D

trouble with this is that not all hardware was purchased at the same time most of my rig was purchased a while ago when it was worth more
but for what it's worth
item - price paid - year (so 07 represents 2007 and etc)
cpu-325$ -07
mobo-110$ -07
mem- 50$ -09
primary hd - 250$ -07
secondary hd - 150$ - 05
case - 85$ - 07

dvd burner - 40$ - 07

monitor - 200$ -05
mouse - 50$ - 04
keyboard -10$ - 05
OS - 30$ (yay ultimatesteal.com) -10

totals to $1989

soo yeah obviously components have come and gone along the way but that's how much I paid for everything in my primary rig over the years.

pity cause that would get one hell of a rig now, computers are a poor investment lol.

edit: and yes i'm forcing you to see the breakdown because I had to calculate it damnit.
