well is it a PCI Express 16X physical slot that is wired for PCI Express 1X or is it a short slot that is shorter than the vid card?

then yes if its the same placement and size as the pcie x 16 above it then no problem'

Physx only requires 32 shaders aka 9500gs minimum aka a $40 gpu over here people just use stronger for qoute "Future proofing"

that said physx wont strain your 9800gtx if you used it as a physx card as i said maybe 15% usage of the gpu and thats a big maybe

anyone knew if Ageia Physx cards required a 16x slot or not to be fully utilized?

crazyeyesreaper: ok, so how about just placing the 9800gtx into the slot to be used as physix only and without any 6 pin power ????

let it just gets the power from the mobo.

does it matter???

You should have more than enough information in this thread already to answer your questions.

Yes, it needs the 6 pin power connector or it won't work at all.

Don't even bother using the 9800GTX for PhysX, you will get little to no benefit from it.

Go get the GTX 460, and if you need further help after that, just ask.

well, in this benchmark, we are wittnessing a very nice overclock of a 460.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...k=view&id=558&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=17

which is very impressive.

Nice.... 675mhz to 900..... my 5850 will do 725mhz to 1040, I would guess a 5850 at 1040 would probably be 20% faster than a 460 at 900, possibly more. The bottom line is that the HD 5850 is a faster card but it costs a bit more, all you need to ask yourself is does the performance make the additional cost acceptable.

As for Physx, enough has been said, worry more about a powerful enough DX11 card to handle all that DX11 will give us, ohhhh and by the way, at the end of this year there will be nearly as many DX11 titles as there are Physx, difference is DX11 will have been with us 15 months, physx for more than 4 years. This is coming from a guy who has 3 Physx titles and enjoyed them all! Having said that, i really like the look of those 460's, I think for the price they have a lot to offer.

see lookign a areview based on an OC is silly unless you already have the card and are curious how far other have been able to push it. In this case the 5850 is faster the 460 is cheaper, personally I'd go with the 5850 as it has a higher potential for performance in the long run, but I persoanlly just wen throguh about with several nvidia cards so I have no experience with the 5xxx series. I will say that the fermi architecture is strong.

I think you should get quad GTX 480's. No, get two 5970's and a GTX 480 for PhysX. Yeah, that's what I'd get. But really, flip a coin at this point. You have all the information here that you need and countless reviews to look at.

I read every single reply

im going to upgrade, but confused on whether i should buy a gtx 460 1gb or ati 5850.

as for the costs, Gigbayte GTX 460 1GB costs $401 and AT HIS 5850 1GB costs $466 in here where i live.

i want to know which card is better, and faster. most people say ATI 5850 is better and can overclock better which can match a 5870, which i saw, but its at least $66 more expensive than a gtx 460.

so which path i should go for ?????

Thanks.

Unfortunately, even though the mod said you have enough information, I disagree.
Here's some information you DIDN'T GET in all the pages of replies telling you to buy the 5850 ati card.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-460-cyclone-oc-1024-review/13

I see the KFA2 GTX460 beats the 5830, the 5850, the AND 5870 - you see that ? A single GTX460, creeping up on the 5970.
Ah, what other 460's also beat the 5870 there ?
768 eVGA 460 ( yes, even the 768 with the lower stats BEATS the 5870)
The MSI 460
The Zotac 460 the Palit 460....

I guess claiming the 460 can't match the 5870 is wrong. Weren't you told only the 5850 gets close ? For like page after page after page...

Now, no doubt, I will be attacked relentlessly (not by you of course). Glad to help you out, though. I can hardly wait be ripped to shreds, again.

In all those prior pages not a single poster looking out for you said " Sometimes even the 768 GTX460 beats the 5870 soundly. I wonder why ? I really wonder W H Y.

If you're just posting in anticipation to getting "ripped to shreds" your mind isn't in the right place and you need more confidence in what you are typing. You are nothing more than a member name to everyone else and what you type is who you are here so if you do so in a respectful, friendly manner you will become to be known as a respectful and freindly member. Capiche? While I'm not going to "rip you to shreds", it's one game and in no way should affect the decision.

But like I said, he should get the 460 as things like PhysX are concerning to him and it's the less expensive card.

I and many others appreciate the help you give, however turning the conversation towards yourself or other isn't needed.

Urrrm that is a MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone OC 1024MB which is a overclocked variant its not a standard GTX 460.

A standard GTX 460 under normal circumstances is slower than the 5850.

Saying that price/performance the GTX 460 is the better deal.

Lol, are you talking about vantage and a 5850 at stock against a max overclocked 460? The really sad thing is.... look at BFBC2 at 1900 res, even the 460 with it's MAX overclock can't beat a 5850 at stock, sadly you need to measure like for like to get an accurate picture, either both competitors at stock or both at max overclocks........ good effort though! :)

That overclock is not even up to average either

well, in this benchmark, we are wittnessing a very nice overclock of a 460.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...k=view&id=558&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=17

which is very impressive.

From your link:
QUOTE !

" Aliens vs Predator jumped from 22.2 FPS at stock/default settings to 28.3 FPS, resulting in nearly 28% performance gain. What does that 28% mean to you? For a mere $200~$220, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 just matched the $400 ATI Radeon HD 5870. That right ATI, you read that correctly: NVIDIA's $200 product can perform as well as your $400 flagship video card. Ouch! That's gotta hurt. "

Yes, so anyway..... that advice you got for 3 pages was so professionally done. I was impressed.

SiliconDoc, you are missing the point, we all know the GTX 460 is the better product value for money, it sometimes does outperform higher rated cards on the odd game, no-body is disputing that.

What is being disputed is the 5850, 5870 and 5970 are faster regardless. That being said a faster card does not make the best purchase.

SiliconDoc, you are not telling us anything new.

..What you are basically saying is like the AMD X6 1090T sometimes beats out Intel's Intel's $1,000 Core i7-975 in the odd benchmark.

The X6 1090T is the better purchase, but overall when said and done the Intel Core i7-975 is still faster.

I don't know where you saw vantage - you must not have hit the link or surfed when you got there.
The link I provided was to a GAME BENCHMARK.

Now, we all know various games result in various advantages for the competitors and even within their own ranks to a lesser degree, as a rule of thumb.

So, the fact remains, as even the thread starter showed with his link, the GTX460 can BEAT the 5870 - and that's in POPULAR games used in the benchmarking suites on this very site and others.

There is not a better overclocker or dual card scaler than the GTX460 - that has already been established. It wins BOTH those categories, PERIOD. That's a difficult set of records to go up against.

You said what I read for 3 pages. I said something new though. Something that had not been said.
NONE OF YOU showed the 460 beating the 5850 let alone the 5870.

I did, and that was absolutely NEW.

"NONE OF YOU"...urrm, I just joined this thread so of course I didnt show any links of 460 beating the 5850.

You showed a review from 1 website which was proved invalid because you had a overclocked card in it. I would be interested in reading a review with a standard GTX 460 and a standard 5850 please.

What Iam actually confused about, are you saying the 460 is faster overall or are you saying that the 460 is the better purcahase? Because they are two different justifications.
