It is running in a window, so the score part of the window probably doesn't fit on your screen.

But i did drag the window to the area where the score would be, and nothing was there.

set the res of ur desktop to the max and then try.

i get 2500 on high. with my q9400 at 3.60ghz and 9800gtx+ superclocked. 3GB ram.

how much is the difference between core i7 at 2.66ghz and q9400 at 3.6ghz?

can q9400 at 3.6ghz be faster or equal?

Not sure how much the exact difference would be, but considering this benchmark does in fact put all 8 threads on an i7 to work, i would suspect a Q9400 to perform slightly below an i7. Since the i7's architecture is using new tech on board, overclocking your Q9400 won't match it unless you really push it. But like i said before, this benchmark does take HT into account, and that's something the Core 2 Quads don't have.

Neither card is needed, FFXIV judging by the bechmark isnt going to be GPU dependant, a cheap ATI 4770 should max it out easy with a stable frame rate. You'll be wasting your time upgrading from a 9800 GTX+ to the 5850 or GTX 460 just for this one game, your 9800 GTX+ should piss ontop of it already.

The game is going to be CPU dependant at best, this is where you need to concentrate your efforts. Reading back on your previous threads you mention having a Q9400 at 3.6ghz which is still a powerful CPU. I would wait for the game to be released and then make any decsions about upgrades then.

When you are ready for more help you MIGHT want to put your full specification where its supposed to go---> http://forums.techpowerup.com/profile.php?do=specs

i saw a benchmark which shows that 5850 is like 20 fps faster than a 460.

so is it possible for 5850 to be much better than 460???

i have listed my specs .

i will be upgrading anyway in general. but im not sure yet if i go for a HIS ATI HD 5850 or EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1gb SuperClocked Video card.

the 5850 one costs $466 and the gtx 460 one costs $432.

how many percent of performance increase i should see upgrading from an overclocked 9800gtx+ to gtx 460 and 5850???

Kind of unsure what you mean. So the 5850 got 20 more frames in what?, you shouldn't judge the performance of a card by a single game benchmark. Also it all depends what you mean by can it be faster, you could overclock the 5850 to make it even better then the 460, but then again you could also overclock the 460 and save you some cash to get near 5850 performance, but how far would you be willing to push it?, how good a card performs also depends on the resolution you're trying to run the game at, so that plays a role to.

well a stock 5850 is always faster than a stock 460. unless the 460 is overclocked. no?

but how much is the improvement over my 9800gtx+ OC either card anyway?

Right, if the 460 is overclocked enough, it is possible to at least match a 5850.

The 460 should give you a nice jump in performance over your current 9800 GTX, plus it's a DX11 card.

so 36% of performance increase at 1680res if i go with the 460 and 42% increase with the 5850.

also the gap increases on higher resolution.

so 40% of performance increase is good enough and would it be an upgrade?

but at the same time, the performance increase over a 5770 is only 12%. lol. so little.

and even 9800gtx+ compared to gtx 260, the performance increase is 14%. not much.

so it shows that 9800gtx+ is still not a weak card.

so anything lower than 460 or 5850 isnt worth upgrade ey?

pretty much and a 5770 is a just a DX11 enabled 4870 for the most part

that said both cards overclocked will show a large boost over your 9800 but there both still not needed for FFIV seriously a 9800GTX will perform just fine

but the recommended gpu for this game is a 460 though.

i think some effects were OFF In the benchmark. like Ambient Occlusion. and u know thats a big performance eater. also Shadow was on Normal.

then buy a 460 or a 5850 id bet cash in hand the specs are heavily inflated and heres why its A FRIGGING MMO.. how many ppl are gonna pay to play a game that looks like shit. not many they would go back to wow or warhammer etc etc of FF11 my point is those specs scream inflated then again known Square softs notoriuosly crappy optimizations on PC it might be needed simply because they cant get it sorted out.

Buy whatever suits you altho i find it rather bad taste to buy a new gpu for a game before it comes out and for 1 game only.

These requirements are sure to drop before the game actually comes out. This benchmark is only based on a test version, remember. The game still has a ways to go. They'll want to trim that down as much as they can, because every PC that can't play the game is a potential monthly fee lost.

Besides, do you really need to play it with all the eye candy on? I'm sure it will play just fine and look OK set to medium.

I mean, if you want a new card and are looking for an excuse, just buy it. :) But don't say to yourself, "Oh, no! I won't be able to play with shadows on max! I need a new card!" over this particular game.

well, yes, i have this habit of playing every game on MAX settings. even if they gonna slow down my GPU. lol.

like just cause 2, metro 2033, i played them on max with my old hardware even when the performance was low.

i dont like to sacrifice quality over higher performance. i know im amongst the very few :D.

i like eye candy but i never could afford a high end hardware. but this time im gonna buy 5850 or 460.

Generally speaking the ATI 5850 is faster GPU. However the performance level is nearly the same so the outcome willd depend on the specific game you're running, driver revision, resolution etc.

So no, not always faster - but faster more often.

Your starting to really piss me off now, its like you are either not reading or unwilling to comprehend what we are saying.

As we explained 2 pages ago the specification at the back of the box is a approximation and 9/10 has no relation to how well a game will play.

You are making it seem like you are solving some mathematical equation, this is simple stuff, you buy the game (FFXIV) if it runs well (and it will) you have fun and play. Until you PLAY the game all this "what if" stuff is pointless. Buy the game play it, if you are unhappy I will recommend you a card. Close thread.

Well that is good for you, but as I said, if you want to play the game on 3 year old hardware, then expect a game that looks 3 years old.

Don't expect the rest of the gaming community to be stuck with the same graphics forever just because you don't feel you should have to upgrade to get better graphics.

Dent1: if u get pissed off then dont comment in my thread.

Final fantasy will be a heavy game. it will rquire at least a 5850.

im still dwelling in which way to go. should i buy a 5850 or gtx 460 and overclock?

the 5850 is faster than 285 on stock, which gtx 460 isnt.
