SSD not showing right in BIOS.

Ok Well I have this SSD Intel X25-M 80GB drive and when I see it in the bios it only shows it as a 74GB hard drive Why is this and is there some thing I need to do or can do to fix this ? Or am I just seeing things and this is normal .. :respect:

normal. the other 6GB is used as backup for when some of the memory inevitably fails. (that, and the whole decimal gigs vs binary gigs thing)

Are you sure its not soley GiB vs GB?

1 KiB = 1,024 Bytes
1 MiB = 1,048,576 Bytes (1024 x 1024)
1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 Bytes (1024 x 1024 x 1024)

1 GB = 1,000,000,000 Bytes

sooo... 80GB / 1GiB = 80,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 74.5GiB

What makes it confusing is KB, MB, GB used to normally be taken as multiples of 1024 however it may have been that marketing saw using the standard multiple of 1000 looked better when showing hard drive size (80GB vs 74GB). Technically it can be argued multiples of 1000 is correct.

Even today you will find KB, MB, GB etc can still really mean KiB, MiB etc. Take RAM for example, you probably see 1GB, 2GB, 4GB etc and it really is 1GiB, 2GiB, 4GiB.

well its one of the two, i did mention it in my post.

Is that a fact? Nobody I've ever known ever used "binary gigs"and "decimal gigs". The SI binary prefixes have existed since the late 90's.

might be an aussie thing... but even the OCZ quote refers to it as decimal and binary, and not GB vs GiB... so methinks i win
