i have a brand new custom built windows xp home edition operating computer. it has work fine untill now. after is goes through the start up with the blue bar whick normally only takes about 8 cycles now takes 17. after that is goes black and in a small box with an X in a red cirlce it says "lsass.exe-system error" at the top, then below it it says "the end point format is invalid", then it lets me click the exit at the top right corner or click OK and then it restarts and does the smame thing over again. please help.

it sound like a Virus. can u boot in safe mode

virus i think

yes i can boot in safe mode . what should i do?

Setup a new account to test if you can boot into windows normally in safe mode or scan for gremlins in safe mode!

You could then attempt a repair with your original xp disk if that doesn't help!

Note: The lsass.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, lsass.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.

I would suggest making a new user account, see if that will allow you to log in!

If you can, then put your xp disk in and go to start - run and type sfc /scannow

That may repair that file!

i say so because i think i caught it once

i have created the new account but not nything with the windows xp cd because my dad has it and he needs to get it for me for some reason he wont let me knwo where it is. but hell get it in like 10 minutes so ill try that. the only thing is that the cd he has is windows xp pro and my comp is home editoin will that have any difference?

Yeah, you need the disk that it was installed with!

Have you been into msconfig recently? Im wondering if you may have disabled a startup function of xp!

im not shure. but i never had a cd except for when my friend who built it for me used a home edition cd but he was out of cd keys so it gave me a period of tiem until i got the actual thing. i called microsoft and they gave me a key over the phone for free too and it worked so i dont have the cd

They gave you a key for free?

Do you not mean they just authorised the key that he used to install with?

You can still run sfc /scannow but if it throws up that it needs the original disk you will need that!

I take it its running with a new account though?

Did it find any gremlins?

yes it was for free i clicked the activate windows and he gave me a whole new key. yes it is working on a new account and im using the internet with it now under safe mode with networking. how do i find gremlins?
