GTX 460 Green Edition

Hi guys!
I was watching galaxy site and come by an interesting card
Nvidia GTX 460 Green edition

It only requires 1 6-pin connector so it uses less electricity
Are these green editions so good as they "look"???
It looks a bit suspicious, i mean, the card must use less power than normal
and the performance should drop by a good margin
All opinions and suggestions welcomed!

Hmm, I definitely wouldn't risk it on a generic 350W PSU...

The power requirement for the normal 460 (not green edition) is 450W minimum and the green edition only consumes 10% less power.

It will more than likely be clocked lower to keep power down as with all green editions, though I am intrigued where the performance of this is going to be.

But that's a non-green underclocked to 675 core from 720.

Here's my card at stock clocks

All settings were the same in each run. It's about 4.6% margin faster over the green edition in retrospect when clocking a non green card to green clocks.

Performance wise, they always turn the clocks down a notch, so yeah, it'll be weaker than the reference. I'm just not sure by how much will there be a difference.
As for power consumption, 450 Watts min. with at least 24 Amps in the 12V rail. Doesn't look very "Green", but considering it's a fermi...might be...

gtx 460 = 155w furmark

shouldnt be a big problem to achieve <150w

and that's just Nvidia reference clocks for a GTX460, not underclocked at all, its just that most cards from all the board partners are pre-overclocked given there is so much headroom there.

Don't be fooled, just because it uses only 1 6-pin that doesn't mean anything. From what I've seen the standard GTX460 could get away with using a single 6-pin anyway.

Performance shouldn't drop at all really, as it uses reference clocks, actually the memory seems to be clocked a little beyond reference speeds. They more than likely just lowered the voltages on the core and memory, which would easily lower the power consumption 10%, but where the difference is going to be felt is the overclocking headroom. I bet these cards overclock like shat compared to standard GTX460s. Personally, I'd just buy a standard GTX460 and lower the core voltage with Afterburner to achieve the same results.

yeah that sounds better, i would get a TGT and underclock the hell out of it, if i wanted to save power that is..

No, the second 6-pin is always required. The card checks to make sure it is plugged in, even if it isn't technically needed.

I'm actually using one of these with my GTX460 as we speak: APEVIA 1 to 2 6pin PCI Express converter Model CVT...
