its sad to see this shit is happening. Turning something innocent and fun into some BS scandal fiasco. That ruins it for everyone else. In a way I think its good though. It would be good for the leaders these past few years to finally fall and have someone new and deserving take the position. If they were cheating that is. The only possible and probable thing I see happening next is cheater fever. Kinda like when toyota said their gas pedals stuck all of a sudden 100k+ people immedietly filed a claim that their accidents were because of gas pedals. funny how that works? I can see everybody calling cheat. which in itself will ruin the fun.

It needs to be seen that some of the people that us tech guys look up to and watch with wide eyes and massive jealousy (due to the huge tech-porn they have access to) are actually nothing to look up to at all.

I've never known any marketing to be completely honest. When I questioned someone about something I thought questionable, I was told exactly that...that it was just marketing.

All current guys in the extreme OC scene should be cut off. Every single one, honest or not.

Fixing the entire scene would be easy...but noone wants to do it.

Nothing in your article, BZ, was really unknown before. I guess it wasn't fully public and all in one place.

I agree and disagree with some points. but one thing id like to ask cadaveca were did you get those pink 50's you cheating B#$% if i catch you cheating in monopoly one more fu#$%ing time i will drop you. i did not play this game for 6 hours to be cheated. I had far better things to do with my time.

I'd make competitions random-entry. If you've competed in one, with any company, you are banned from the rest. HWBOT needs to die(they provide a good service, but the points thing, teams, and global ranking, are useless).

No sponsoring people...reviewers get free stuff only. I think companies just giving away the hardware cost of one of the competitions would provide far better marketing than all overclocking competitions do together.

Remember the Gigabyte OC Guru is you 5870 Competition on HWbot ?
They allowed AndreYang to go there, test 36 ES cards ( the fact that they allowed him to bin cards is nothing compared to giving him ES cards to bin while the competition rules disallowed the use of ES cards ) and take the 4 best cards with him.
Later on those ES cards were distributed by Gigabyte to other benchers ( most of them received only 1 card )

They are unregulated contests brought to you by corporate marketing. I would expect no less. It's one big commercial and a select few get to have fun using all this free stuff as the "actors" in this commercial. Getting in a tizzy over things like ethics is like getting upset because that stain just doesn't get out of your shirt like the detergent company says it will.

Yeah, and actually, we were kinda talking about that exact thing on the TS the other day.

Like I said, "noone wants to do it". We know who's in control of these things, and it's THOSE PEOPLE that are really ruining it for everyone else.

I just wish all the bickering and stuff will stop...and the only way I see that is possible is to completely stop the whole thing.

I think, what I am going to do, is to start approaching teh right people to change this...the peole that are in charge of the marketing departments. I'll go right over marketing's head, explain how these marketing efforts actually make these companies look bad, rather than good, becuase of these things happening, and show how the money invested in such marketing efforts is actually very well mis-spent. It'll be really hard for these competitions to continue when marketing departments don't have the funds to do it.

This stuff needs to hit investor relations people at each company, not hte public forums. Show the investors how these companies are squandering thier cash....

Marketing is flogging the horse down this path, but it seems they don't realize it. They are just along for the ride...

I guess I shouldn't be arguing about the bot in public to begin with, only because I'm biased in such an obvious way that simply any of my arguments can be countered by the 'you are biased'-argument.

Apart from the drama once in a while, the bot does give a lot of people the pleasure of 'fighting' for the team and pushing each other while testing hardware. I'm the first to say that benching for boints isn't really what we stand for, it's benching for the fun of benching. I don't know about you, but every time I have a team session (including drinks) I have fun regardless of how much the scores are worth.

The points do have a purpose, though. At the end of each month, when I see the bills coming ing, I can look at my profile and convince myself 'it was all worth it'

For example, one person in Asus didn't agree with their stupid malicious marketing sh1t, he ended up leaving the company on his own.
Yet again... he just got back with them.

Some people told Gigabyte's PR people some things after their first fiascos, they just ignored all of them.

my ego grows when people accuse me of cheating when i get 10,000 gallons of ln2 and a 2k cherry picked chip for free too.

I just overclock to get the most out of my parts becuase I can, In a way it provides more value for your money, like overclocking the cheapest line of a CPU to beyond the highest etc (ie i7 920 to past 975)

I can see why people would cheat in a competition, but I hardly believe in the outcome of the competition anyway, not every piece of hardware is created completely 100% equal, so when overclocking to the brink, results will always vary. Like assume that ONE person overclocks 20 sets of CPU/Mobo/RAM to the absolute brink, he wont get the EXACT same clocks and settings on every single setup.

I know I'd love to be sponsored by a company and get their free parts and all, but it seems like waaaay too much politics goes on nowadays, and I hate politics.
