looking for a new card

So I have not really been up to date with the new cards that are rapidly coming out. I am currently trying to find a good card for gaming. I currently use a 9800GTX+ with a bit of overclocking ( not much, it kinda sucks) but yeah not a fan boy so open minded. I guess something that isn't overly pricy and will work just fine for like awhile. I believe I will be gaming mainly on a 1280x1024 res monitor, so probably don't need as much. future proof would be nice

Well if you want to step up to DX11 wait for the HD 6870 that's coming out next week. The performance should be pretty big jump from that 9800 gtx + u got. The price should be around $250 if the rumor are true.

We won't really know until next week when the final specs are out. @ 1280x1024 it doesn't really make sense to go with high end cards. If you want physx i would go with the 460/465.. if physx doesn't matter to you then the upcoming 6800 series

well i might get a new monitor with 1900x1680. thats why i kinda want to look at something that will work for later on. (if the price isn't too high that is)

67xx series will be rebranded 57xx cards :shadedshu
However this isn't official so things may change (hopefully)

I think he meant wait for the 6870, which is taking the place of where the 5770 is now, but will be renamed to the 800 series. AMD wants the 6870 to be in direct competition with the GTX 460 1GB with better power efficiency and higher memory bandwidth.

You can get a GTX 460 1GB now for about $200 after rebate if you're lucky enough to not get taxed, and the 6870s are rumored to sell around $250. Unfortunately, I get taxed from Newegg, but I want something new and marginally more powerful than my current card, so I'll be offloading this card in favor of the 6870 unless it has some fatal flaw. Toss me a message once they're released if you think you would be happy with one. I play Bad Company 2 and Starcraft 2 maxed at 1920x1200 on this card.

Actually, it's a bad deal if that's all you're looking at.

You can get a GTX 460 1GB for about $200 right now after rebate. If the 6870 costs $50 more, and is 20% faster, your options are:

$200 GTX 460 1GB
or
$250 (25% more expensive) 6870 that is 20% faster.

Based on price/performance alone, if these numbers hold true, they're going to have to sell it on its power efficiency for the $10 premium.

Shouldnt it be the 6770 $20% faster then the GTX 460, i cant come to believe that ATi would make a stupid move like that. to make the 6870 only just as fast as the GTX 460, i think the 6770 will be 20% faster then the GTX 460. :wtf:
