cheezburger smitten by AMD, i understand your frustration but there are plenty of people that will pay 300+ for a card with those features.

i'm not been irritated by something like this...just feel stupid that they bother to introduce something only a little bit more shader and higher clock then barts but expect to sell 200 dollar more? how would someone going to buy a card that's just clock up and more shader? r770 was worth a little bit was because they bump up 2.5x of TMU that significantly speed up the cripple r600 architecture, although was because r670 really sucks. now if cayman is just a clock up version of barts with more shader then its position is simply useless and people ain't idiotic just because the high digit doesn't mean worth to buy.

6850/960 - 6870/1120 theory

Here's my theory on why the groups are odd but they still are grouped by 4

None of the cards are the full thing

320 x 4 = 1280 (6890???)
280 x 4 = 1120 (6870)
240 x 4 = 960 (6850)

I'm willing to bet they are leaving breathing room to fill in gaps if they have to with the full version of the card

I'm no expert in video cards or all the jargon I keep reading from you guys, but that would seem like a likely scenario for me if they wanted to spread and fill holes including having a response to anything Nvidia would come out with like a 465 or something alike.

And I wouldn't be surprised that they'd do the same thing with Cayman.

you must meant gtx475 aint you? because we already had gtx 465 and it is sucked just as bad as 5830.

anyway here's my speculation for cayman, assume cayman's full chip is 2/3 of barts xtx(full chip):

1920sp = cayman xtx (maybe only being available on 28nm process)
1680sp = cayman xt (next month?)
1440sp = cayman pro (next month?)

Yes probably the 475 is what I meant (the full GF104)

For Cayman because of the 6990 they kind of can't follow the same pattern in the names except if they go down to 6930 for the lowest (1920, 1760, 1600 would be my guess if they ever did the same thing)

hd 6870:56.7 fps
hd 6850:52.3 fps
gtx 460 1 gb:47.2 fps
gtx 460 768mb:39

if we do our abacus

hd 6870 is about 20% faster than gtx 460 igb,whereas hd 6850 is 34% faster than gtx 460 768mb.

If the:)se are truw.then it would be a nice upgrade to 6850

Are we going to see an aggressive push for Bullet Physics in this round of graphics? AMD has to compete and defete Nvidia PhysX so we can have open standard and we can all enjoy.

Just checking, NDA is lifted on Friday?

Also, there's reports that claim the 6850 is 30% faster than the 460 768MB, which places it only slightly behind the 5850... I might have to get 2 on launch, if their cheap :)

Only faster then a GTX 460, shouldnt they be competing with the GTX 470 and GTX 480.? :wtf: that mean's that the GTX 500 series will be the best card's when they come out.

The 6850 is like the 5750 remember... The 6970/90 will take care of the GTX580/95.

Its goes like this folks.....

5750/5770 = 6850/6870

5850/5870 = 6950/6970

I found this rumor on another site about the 69xx series.....

As the latest products of AMD Radeon HD 6000 series is going to be officially released on next Friday. Here, some AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 graphics cards specs has been leaked both of which are Cayman XT/Pro based graphics cards, aiming at the mainstream market.
Both of the AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 come with 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM, according to the market position, the HD 6950 will have a 5000MHz frequency, while HD 6970 clocks at 7000MHz. Therefore, these two card will beyond whatever has been existence.
•AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 Graphics Cards Driver for Win7/Vista
In terms of cooling, the Radeon HD 6970 comes with a turbo-fan, TDP of 300w, as well as one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI-E connector. However, for the Radeon HD 6950, it can not only be able to work with turbo-fan, but als some other fans, with TDP of 225w and two 6-pin PCI-E connectors.
What's more, in terms of Output interfaces, both of the AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 features two 2¡ÁDVI+HDMI+2¡Ámini-DisplayPort.
By the way, if everything goes well, these AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 will be launched by the end of November, obviously, aiming to GeForce GTX 480/470.

Maybe you didnt hear the news, AMD renamed the HD 6770 and HD 6750 into HD 6850 and HD 6870 for some crazy reason. Bad move I think. So the cards you look for comes in November 11 or something called HD 6970 and HD 6950 that should be much faster by at least 80% more than current HD 5870 and HD 5850.

... from a pure sales point of view; I think that changing the naming convention is a clever move by AMD, although it is pissing me off. Most of the targeted consumers and retailers are not members of forums such as this one, and don't have the slightest idea on technicalities. They just know that ATI 5870 is an excellent GPU which somebody they know bought for $400, and now the 6870 is selling for $250, that must be a bargain! Although we know that this is not the case.

Honestly most people simply don't know, and at the rumored features and price level, I think that the new AMD GPUs will sell like hot cakes.
