Me, I'll never argue in favour of it, but that doesn't take away from the truth of your post. It's not that the rebranding suddenly became morally justifiable, it's just that it pales into insignificance in light of all the features you have enumerated.

im thinkin second 5870 in a few months wc it and im set til 7900s after seeing review, i hope 6990+ turn out to be must av epic cos another 30% ontop of a 6870 wont be nearly enough

GTS 450 die size
GTX 460 power consumption

Yes but this card should be beating the 4XX everywhere, probably the only ups are, 6800 consumes less power, able to beat the lower end cards and not the high end it should be competing with
