Cisco has started a large campaign to put video phones into hospitals. What is so special about these video phones though, is that they have a direct button that calls Santa Claus. This means that children who want to talk to Santa, but can't get out of the hospital to visit him, need not go much farther then their room to call Santa Claus and have a video chat with him. Cisco posted a video of it's technology in action here.

1./ This is extremely clever marketing by cisco. They get 10/10 for this particular initiative. I bet they are getting a lot of free media minutes on this concept

2./ What a great way to install THIER system in hospitals. Most governing boards of hospitals are IT noobs, and probably haven't even heard of cisco or competing brands. This way, they get known fast to these people

3./ OUCH, did someone say 1-900 or premium call line? Are YOU the parent that denies their sick child access to the call-per-minute lines from a hospital? Hospital fees are high enough without this! OUCH

Using sick children combined with the holiday spirit to sell a product seem rather unethical to me.

Well lets look at it this way, do you really think the kids care who is putting in the video phone system? Some of the kids are on deaths door, why not let companies like cisco bring a little joy into their life even if it is just a bi-product of marketing. Fact is even if their intensions were true (who knows they could be) no one would believe them anyway :p
