Hey guys, stupid question...

Sooo, first time, long time. I hope this is the right forum for this type of question. I know I'm going to catch crap for this but...

I've been trying to find info on the intranets regarding my PSU and if it'll be able to handle a non-overclocked 470GTX (non-SLI). My system specs:

PSU in question: Corsair 520HX - about 2 years old and going strong.

i7-860 (stock)
Asus P7P55D Evo
9800GTX+ (to be replaced with a 470GTX)
2 sticks G.Skill DDR3 (stock)
3x 7200rpm WD drives
3x 120mm Fans (low-medium speed)
1x 140mm Fan
2x 92mm fans (medium speed)

Calculated Current draw via eXtreme PSU Calculator: 352watts
Calculated Current draw with 470GTX: 431watts

The reason I ask is because I don't want to have to shell out more cash for a PSU when the one I have is still pretty good so far. Also, I don't plan on on OC'ing the 470GTX when I get it. I've read reviews on the 520HX and how it can dish out more power, but I just wanted to be on the safe side and ask you fine folks of TPU for your expertise.

The HX520 will handle your rig with a GTX470 just fine. Also, the PSU calculator programs are complete crap.

most of us in here have an idea of how much certain rigs uses of power and how big a psu it need, it comes with time lol

Look up reviews (the local ones from tPU! are awesome - W1zzard is a great reviewer) for the components you are using and then sum them up to get your total. In general you need the figures for your CPU(s) and GPU(s), then throw in some extra for your smaller components (~100W will usually be more than enough for your motherboard, other expansion cards, hard drives and fans).

I have the same PSU and a GTX470 my PII is also unlocked to x4 and overclocked, no power issues here man!! :toast:
