Ok so i have 600 to play with in a wk and im bored. Suggestions for computer parts/upgrades?

I'd get a 1 TB drive and maybe more ram. You already have a 4 GHz i7 and sli 460s, so sock the rest away for your next core upgrade. Lots of new sockets coming out soon.

But I agree... wait for the net chips coming! but if you really can't wait then I'd say go i7 + RAM + mobo and your good to go :rockout:

lol yar pretty much same performance in games except in multi threaded apps which is second to none. HT is currently only good for converting and benching tbh. Get a GTX 580 xD!

All great ideas, but i think for now im probably going to keep mobo, cpu., ram, might grab another 4gigs ram. Was thinking of maybe getting 2 more 22in led/lcd, i can get 2 lcd 22s for 129.00 each for nvidia surround, cause god knows im getting tired of being blindsided in COD lol. Any other ideas?

Was thinking that to Erocker.

Ahh yes SSD's would be the best thing at this point. A system's BIGGEST bottleneck is the Hard-Drive, so you'd wanna alleviate that if you wanna have a blazing fast comp. There are SSd's that don't degrade in performance over time. Here is the link, they are pretty damn cheap too I have two running in raid0 at the moment:

As long as it doesn't degrade, tbh I'd be weary of getting any SSD's that degrade even with TRIM support. So IMO that would be one of the most important points to keep a look out on when getting an SSD.

Might get the Corsair whatever 50 watercooler. So monitors are pretty much a given, SSD is 50/50 and the watercooler 75/25 lol and i might not get better ram but i might get more. I have another 3yrs of GST-its a canadian thing lol, coming to me also so thatll be another 300 at least, just not sure when thatll get here

I'd take a pass on a ssd. It will take up a huge chunk of your money and offer so little space. I probably won't get one till 2012, hopefully 480-520 GBs will be cheap enough by then.

get a couple Momentus XT's and RAID 0 them for a nice boost in storage and speed.
You get 2 of them in raid 0 and have 1TB and some good speed. There some nice Hybrid SSD drives. Run very cool and are quiet.

What is the expected life span of those hybrid drives?

I was considering one or two myself but if they only last as long as most common SSD's then I'd possibly just go for that.

I honestly have no idea at all. I didn't look into them that much. Think of the "SSD" part of it as a really big Cache. That is mostly what it is.

I have had mine for alittle less then a year and have yet to have a problem with it or notice any out of the normal slow downs. The only thing i don't really like is the benches for them are only alittle better then normal drives but the overall feel and load up time is improved.

i don't think that would be a good move. The difference wouldn't be all that great IMO. Just up the voltage and overclock your 460's. Unless you want to give me the 460's for folding then i don't recommend going to the 470's

Maybe upgrade to some faster drives and a better PSU? Maybe grab a quality 1kw.

Get something that can be used in the future when the new sockets come out. Like some good DDR3 and a powerful quality PSU. Then hold onto the money that is left over and put it toward Sandy or Bulldozer.
the things that i would replace if i had your rig
CPU HSF
RAM
HDD(s) and possibly PSU

I don't like mismatched HDD's or even full sized HDD's so they would be replaced with a pair of 500gb lappy drives.
The ram would be replaced with some higher speed/higher clocking ram and maybe 4gbx2(not really needed) I would look into the Ripjaws.
HSF would be replaced with something bigger with more cooling power. I would get the Tt Frio or something similar possible a Thermalright Venomous X(SP?)
I would replace the PSU just because i don't like the Coolermaster name when it comes to PSUs and a more powerful one is more future proof.I would turn to a Silverstone Strider 1kw or Antec Signature 1kw. Possible a 750w Seasonic X

There are a couple things: Blu Ray Burner, More/better ram, SSD, More storage space, TV Tuner, Watercooling. My most recommended investment: saving it putting it in the bank.

Well im pretty sure im getting the corsair h50. Ram ill have to see. This psu has been great ill have had it 2 yrs come Feb lol. If i can find a cheap enough 1tb ill probably get it.

Dont need a blu-ray burner, everything is stored on computer and attached to the computer so dont need to burn. Dont need a tuner as everything is right here in front of me lol.

Im pretty sure itll be 2 22in monitors, h50, and 1tb and maybe ram

I would only upgrade if any of my games couldn't run.

The only thing i could think of that can boost your pc speed noticeable is SSD drives.
