There is currently a major power outage in the Seattle/Bellevue area, exactly where Valve's Steam is hosted. Unfortunately, there is no guess as to when the power will come back on. Steam will work hard to restore the power as soon as the storm that is currently battering the area dies down a bit. Basically, if you can't connect to Steam, it is not your fault.

I've been trying all day, good to hear it's me though... however this is on of the many flaws Steam has. It locks you out of your own software!

We actually received email notices from providers in the Seattle area (expense report providers), that a massive storm will be reaching them - and that power outages were likely. I guess it's happening.

it's back up again, though it says I never bought gary's mod, and my cdkey for prey isn't in it. Similar situations have happened before though, if it still says I don't own them tomorrow, then I'll whine. Ironically it was giving me updates that told me of the ww2 game deals ending the 14th...so some things are screwy

sweet deal that it is up now...

i was missing garry's mod all day :(

pretty sad the valve only has one set of servers in one city, rather than around the US.

especially peeps like me who has paid over 200 bucks in games from them.

It still doesn't work for me. I'm DYING to play a game right now, I'm bored out of my mind.

G'Day all,

Updated news from VALVe.

Steam Servers are currently in the process of being located to a different facility.

Approximately half of all accounts should now be functioning normally at this time. The remaining accounts will soon follow.

VALVe are working as quickly and as they can on this issue - there are obviously issues of resources/priority as basics such as essential services are taking priority in such a circumstance - as one would hope.

More news as it comes to hand.

Steam is nice. I don't steal software, because I'm not a brokeA$$. If I want to play a game, Episode 2 for example, I can play it the moment it is released, rather than have to wait until EB opens. However, I really hate EA link... and EA for that matter.

That's like saying, when you play Diablo 2, they force you to use battle.net. Who cares. The company who made Half-Life, deserves the right to use strategic money-making strategies because they actually make a quality product. (unlike EA)

I've been a fan of steam for some time, but this makes me question my loyalty. If you have a newish system it's not warranted to complain that it sucks resources, and many complaints I hear are just paranoid. I like that games keep themselves updated and not having to wait for days when games come out, I also reformat every couple of months, and not needing to hunt down cds is much easier. My fear now is that something could happen to steam, if there is not some redundant system to prevent me from losing games I've bought legally, I can't help but whine. All of my friends have played hl2, but very few of them bought it legally, I don't want to be punished because I pay for my games...

My question is, whats going to happen when and if they decide to stop serving the game... Then what, I'm screwed? Are they going to release a patch allowing me to burn a cd for my own install? Or are they going to tell me to go spend $50 at the store and buy it again.

Needless to say its a bunch of bull, and for myself the game has been modded, I run my own server not through steam, and play with friends without logging into steam, and I'm going to be looking into writing my own setup and burning their install onto a dvd.

Steam you have no power over me! :)

Same goes with microsoft... HAHA Activate my windows xp pro... I bought an oem license key, and then installed a volume copy, and in actuality its not illegal, I do legally own a copy of windows xp pro, weather or not its the key i used to install it does not matter.

Wrong, unless you've actually purchased that volume copy license, what you are doing is ILLEGAL. You bought an OEM license, and that is what you are licensed to use. You don't own the software, you own the right to use the software.

Actually no, I am licensed to use Windows XP Pro SP1, I installed Windows XP Pro SP1, the key used to install does not matter, the software is the same. I could get into trouble if I installed SP2 off the disc. There is nothing illegal about using another key or install disk. Already went over this with my fathers lawyers, when he was sick of activating winblows, and I had access to a volume key.
