6850 Crossfire problem

Hello guys, I'm new here- looking for your expert advice on this one.

I recently purchased a couple of Sapphire 6850s, everything seems to be working fine so far, I have no issues with the drivers or anything. The problem I have is the temperature- when playing games the temperature goes up to 85° C with fan-speed around 90 to 95%, I want to know if this is alright because it makes me feel a bit nervous. I also want to know the max temps for this card.

Are the cards touching? Or is there a PCI/PCI-E slot inbetween them?

You have to understand that 2 Graphics Cards mean twice the heat in the case.

No they aren't touching but the gap between the two cards is very small.

that should not matter much, quad sli the cards are bunched together it doesnt make a ton of difference because cards can suck from the front of the gpu where the psu plugs in. I would take those cards out and take the coolers off and put some good TIM on them and reseat them, I always do this with new cards after verifying they work and i usually see a good temp drop afterwards. board makers usually put to much on wich can lead to a bad gpu seat and poor cooler contact

Try them seperately and report back with temps

If they do the same, problem is with the cards, if they end up 10C cooler than we can start suggesting other stuff

wow! it worked, temps dropped by 10°C, I didn't really think it would make such a huge difference. Now I am going back to play civ v peacfully, thanks man.

I don't plan to overclock just yet, I need to test these cards for a month @ stock speed.
