Steam won't sign in?!

Whenever I try to sign into steam it doesn't sign in, it just stays there. I put an incorrect password and it says it's incorrect though if I put my proper password it won't log in?!

Wonder why does steam require us to do this ClientRegistry blob deletion thing every now and then.. and the mandatory download client update first before using..

I think it holds the application settings and profile, which has a habit of going bad. I've not had to delete this file in quite some time now I'm glad to say. This install of Windows 7 I have now is very stable and the installed apps rarely screw up.
