My new build, thoughts please!!

So a few weeks ago some of you may have seen my thread about my proposed new build, well today I have started the ordering process and this lot is winging it's way to me as we speak:

Noctua nh-u12p se2
Intel Core i7 760 2.8Ghz
OCZ Fatal1ty 750w

Still to get:

SSD 80-90Gb, have my eye on OCZ Vertex 2 Series SATA II 2.5 INCH SSD 90GB | Eb...
Case, considering the NZXT Phantom white and CM Storm Sniper all black edition
Motherboard, 1156 UD4 or similar features wise
4Gb DDR3, top fo the wishlist Corsair 4gb (2x2gb) Ddr3 1866mhz Dominator Gt Dhx....

Should be able to order the rest on Christmas eve as that's my next payday.

The only things I will be keeping from my current build are my HDD's for programs and storage (1x500gb for each)
And of course my GTX 470.

dont forget if you have big memory and you want to utilize them all you should take 64bit version

Been running x64 for 3 years now, also 90Gb SSd should be good for OS and top 10 games/apps

The cooler you're getting is pretty darn tall so if your case is narrow it may need a little re-working. I had a fan mounted on the inside (part of the design) and it blocked the side panel from closing cause of the cooler. I'd say it sits between 7.5 and 7.75 inches wide (the cooler that is)

I might do, dpends on cost, the only thing that bugs the shit out of me is the cable management and sexy internals that case has and they didn't put a fricken window on the side panel

Am thinking the NZXT Phantom and the CM Storm Sniper should accomadate the biggest of tower coolers, this day in age anyway.

Why do you need such as huge power supply? Either you go SLI or get a smaller PSU.

just the fact that OCZ failure rate lately on PSU's is pretty high. and they make mediocre PSU's from the start.

I would very strongly suggest getting the Antec 1200 chassis. Rule out the CM Storm Sniper coz it is mid tower. You should certainly get a full tower for upgradability, good airflow, easier cable management and less hassles in general.

The Phantom is full tower, but airflow in the Antec 1200 is amazing. It has a 200mm fan on top, 1 on the side panel that cool the gfx card, three 120mm fans in front to keep the hdds and the case in general cool. I've been using it for an year now, and aboslutely, ABSOLUTELY, love it.

As for PSU:
I don't know how OCZ PSUs are, but I use the Corsair 850TX 850W PSU. Its not very expensive, non-modular, and has done a fantastic job so far.

Cable management in the Antec 1200 was a breeze. Just make sure you have some zip-ties handy. Apart from my liquid cooling loop, there are no other cables visible.

The sniper should be classified as a full tower. its plenty big! My friend and i did a built and we could fit 2 water cooling loops inside it, GTX295SLI on a i7 920 with a EVGA classified X58. Its quieter case and better airflow then the 1200 as well

As long as you're certain. I've never had any personal experience with the CM, so I can't say for sure.
However, I do stick with avoiding the Phantom. The front panel seems to be completely solid, which looks pretty but does nothing for airflow.

The lower end of OCZ's PSU might not be the greatest, but the PSU he chose seems fine to me.

Don't know what you are talking about, it seems that there is a lot of cooling options to me. And the fact that you can squeeze a Mega in, you have plenty of space for a cooler too.

Well it's been a long time (not really but feels like it)

Today is payday needless to say as soon as I got paid I ordered the rest of the parts of my build, the final spec is as follows:

CM Storm Sniper all black edition

Giga P55 UD3

i5 760

GSkill Ripjaws 1600mhz 7.8.7.24 4gb

OCZ Vertex 2 90Gb SSD 285mb/s read 275mb/s write, 50'000 IOP's

Notcua NH-U12P SE2

OCZ Fatal1ty 750w Modular PSU

I will be keeping my GTX 470, my 2 500gb HDD's and using my dvd-rw drive to reinstall Windows before ditching it for good as I never use it.

Parts should be here on Weds/Thurs, what do you guys think?

BTW I chose the UD3 over the UD4 which I was going to go with originally though I wont be using SLI so need to pay for it and I should be able to hit a solid 200 BCLK on the UD3 as I only want a 4ghz OC and don't foresee me wanting to go any higher so no real need to shell out the extra money.

thoughts on parts, not bothered about delivery, heres my idea......

UD3 or pretty much any p55 board can do 200 bclk easy enough, I plan on running 200bclk with 20x multi and 8x mem divider to give me 1600 on mem and a solid 4ghz on the i5 760 which should do it at 1.25-1.3vcore
Will pwn my current PII considering its only a x2 and the core Q series was faster than PII so i5 will be a good 30%+ better
