Hello,
For those of you who saw my old thread, my rig was recently having some issues. Long story short, my psu is dead. I am going to sell my still-working components to a buddy of mine for his new build. I am looking to build myself a new computer, one in which I will not need to upgrade too much within the coming years (GPU's are a different story, more or less looking at processors). I know that intel has a new socket coming out some time in 2011 but I am not all that interested in waiting for something that outperforms current chipsets by a small margin.
Ideally, I would like to center this build around the 1366 platform. However, if you have a compelling argument as to why I should not, always feel free to state your opinion. I'm looking to stick with 6GB of Ram for triple channel.
Let's see what we can do with a 1k budget to start but feel free to move within the 1.5k range as well. Money is a factor here. However, if I can build a PC in which I don't need to upgrade too soon, I will be more than happy to pay the upfront cost. Overclocking is also a factor, I do love me some overclocking so O.C. friendly hardware please. I am open to used hardware as long as it is proven to perform and not too old.
Thanks in advance for your input! :toast:
Things I have already:
HDD
SSD
Heatsink
Disk Drive
and I think that is it.

Like Jamborhgini said, wait until Sandy Bridge and then some, so that prices come down a bit. Considering your system is pretty damn powerful in its own right, I see little reason to waste money on an upgrade that wont result in a large performance improvement. Waiting would be a good idea because the current state of the GPU market is also somewhat hectic, and who knows what AMD will pull out of a hat in response to Sandy Bridge?

Edit;
My bad, didn't read the OP well enough. You could always pick up a C2Q setup in the time being, and when sandy bridge hits the shelves go for that; even the mid-range Sandys can easily take on the high-range Nehalems at games.

Isn't the release date of Sandy Bridge unknown? I don't want to wait around and have it hit shelves around this time next year. I don't know how much was read into my OP but I don't have a rig right now. I don't really have the luxury of waiting at the moment. The rig in my system specs is for the most part being sold to a friend of mine.

I do have a case right now but it is a mAtx and I am planning to go back to standard atx in case I do decide to SLI in the future. I also think I will stick with an nvidia card. I have been using ati for quite some time and haven't had the best of luck with their drivers. I have had game ruining issues with them. But I like what you linked so far :cool:.

Could you provide a reputable link to that information? I also have no clue when they are going to hit shelves which is a factor seeing as though I don't have a rig right now. I am not really keen on the idea of spending upwards of 600 on a C2Q rig when I can't transfer any parts to the new rig other than the non-775 stuff.

Here is the way I feel at the moment. Sandy bridge will come out and definitely perform better than the 1366 socket. However, it will not be by a huge margin and even if it is, the performance gains will not be noticeable to someone like me. The most I will do with my rig will be mild to heavy gaming, minor music recording with pro tools or something of that nature, and typical daily computing. I don't think an upgrade from 1366 to sandy bridge is going to make a night/day difference with my computing needs. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but please back your opinions with reputable facts.

Those are definitely some cool sticks. I didn't even realize that prices on DDR3 dropped significantly. I was selling my old sticks to my buddy for 90 bucks and three days later he shows me a newegg link in which showed them priced at 69 bucks new! Bit the bullet on that one and let em go for $50 :shadedshu.
