I've been told that X850XT crossfire isn't worth getting, because it performs like crap. Is this true?

I expect you could get an X1900 series for the same price and that should perform better, I've heard that crossfire, especially on cards before the X1x00 series, isn't all that impressive.

Basically yes :( Im sure I heard that 1x X1950Pro outperforms 2x X850XT's in CrossFire :)

Couldnt you just sell your X850XT and get a X1950 Pro, those cards look great for the money ;)

This is one of the cheapest Ive found: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119203

i see theyve gone down again a cpl days ago they were £140 inc vat and 2 weeks ago i saw them for around £110 (shoulda got that damn thing then :banghead: ) yea there is no point in 2 x850xt's in crossfire as stated already the x1950 performs better also you have sm3 and if ur gonna crossfire or sli that means extreme gaming, no sense in doing that without sm3 as you want it to be future proof and there are quite a few games now with sm3 and there will be even more next year

I think I want that GeCube 512MB X1950 Pro. What can I flash it to? XT?

X1950 Pro's cannot be flashed to any other X19x0 BIOS, since they are a completely different product, PCB, and GPU. It's not a crippled core anymore, it's new. But still a great card for the money, but between 256Mb and 512Mb, not much of a difference at all.

Btw, just so you know Asus doesn't have (A)vivo capabilities. If you look at the pic, it's missing a chip in the front of the cooler (by DVI connections), so something to not if you need/use Avivo at all.

So in F.E.A.R a 256MB X1950 Pro vs a 512MB X1950 Pro, you're saying the extra 256MB memory wouldn't do anything? I personally think every bit counts...

Sorry I dont think that is the case, Infrared has an 850XT crossfired to a 850 flashed 800gto and I am sure he is gettin around 12000 on 3D Mark 2005, a 1950pro is scoring around 10000 I beleive. Dont get me wrong the 1950Pro is a nice card but it aint that fast!

Edit: Lol seen infrared reading this so he can confirm!!

Last I heard from him he got 14K in 3D Mark 05

Well even better, just reinforces my point! crossfired 850's are much faster than a single 1950pro.

But he also said that the extra card makes no real difference in games...if anything it can make it worse...come on Infrared, you know what you said. CLARIFY FOR ME BABY!

Unless you play at higher resolutions, maybe 1600x1200 and AA and AF raised and HDR, then no, not much at all. But it's your money...

Agree with your points (apart from the fact that crossfired 850's ARE faster than the 1950pro) but a DX9 card is hardly "futerproof" unless future is just a couple of months away.

there must be more sm3 games out now and even more in the new year so your telling me a x850 crossfired will be better than a x1950 ??? hmmm futureproof thats what crossfire says to me, the x8*** is a good series of cards but with future games that REQUIRE sm3 there dead and buried. if he was going for one card then maybe a x850 would be sufficient but for crossfire whats the point in buying 2 x850's if there are some games he cant play ? waste of money imo if he cant play the latest games?

Spot on! Unless you are gaming on a 20inch + LCD at those higher resolutions little effect, this link confirms that in FEAR, some games are slightly diffwerent but never much gain until you hit 1600+

faster where ? in 3dmark  its more futureproof than 2 sm2 cards, and cheaper and capable of playing any games on the market now. by the time dx10 ONLY games come out im sure that will be time to upgrade further but at the moment there are none and lots of sm3 games which 2x x850's crossfired wont play now or when they come out FACT.

Couldnt agree more, perhaps our definition of futerproof is a little different, If I am going to invest now in a new card I would want it to last a year+ and in a years time DX10 with be fairly commonplace and because of that resale values of DX9 cards will be much reduced because new ones wont be selling so well or be dirt cheap.

Ohhh and not just faster in 3D Mark.....faster everywhere.
