ok guys heres an idea. Since im going to be useing the 250 gig very soon, any ideas on how to completely wipe a hard drive without reformatting? I want my 120gig harddrive to be erased completely and totally all gone poof mr. clean thank you very much. I plan to sell my 120 gig hard drive, 20x cd burder, floppy drive, and my sound blaster audigy all on ebay for a very nice price of 40$ (the sound blaster audigy alone is worth 30!) Cables not included. And, if nobody in the family can use my old 5200 ultra (im getting a 6800XT), ill sell that on ebay for 40$ as well. All in USD mind you.

You will never be able to erase all of the data

Not short of setting your drive into the incinerator anyway. But the software mentioned should get rid of most of your worries. And yes, new drive = porn :)

I estimate you can fit 387.6 full size porn movies on there :D (@645mb each average size)

Maxtor.. *Sigh*
Seagate's 7200.10 250GB is $75 on Newegg.com and it can outperform a $230 150GB 10k RPM WD Raptor.
I have two in RAID. Getting 20 MB/s higher than two Raptor's in RAID for $310 cheaper? I'm not complaining.

I'd stick Windows (or whatever you're using) on the newest one.
Newer (and bigger) drives = Bigger density = More data passing the head at once = Faster

And if you keep your other drive when you reinstall, create a pagefile on your 120GB drive. Windows will actually do a type of software stripping (like you see with RAID) and it will improve your performance.

You will never be able to erase all of the data

Not short of setting your drive into the incinerator anyway. orries.

You can get rid of it, if you use a tool like Acronis DiskCleanser, & run it thru 4 complete passes over a disk...

@ that point?

Even the data recovery program ENCASE (best there is afaik) won't recover the data then @ that point... & neither will a "skewed disk reader" either.

That method works as well as can be - I've done my share of computer forensics work professionally on the job (contract for a major financial institution a year or so back) & had to make sure ALL of their data on 1000's of machines was burnt completely beyond recovery... this method, worked.
