hey... Mailman.

about the release date for HD 6990 ... I'd like to see AMD/ATI skip it and wait till Summer to drop the HD 7xxx series.

With consistant Driver problems they cannot resolve with the 68xx and 69xx series , AMD might as well leave everyone in LIMBO ... stuck with a Lame Duck ... and see how Profitable the HD 7xxx will NOT be.

Adios AMD/ ATI ...

Consistent driver problems they cannot resolve with the 68xx and 69xx? Did I miss the boat somewhere? Only one driver release (and it wasn't a full release but a hotfix release) has been out since the 69xx have dropped.....

Nvidia never has problems with new hardware releases? /sarcasm

Count me lucky (unlucky maybe? lol), but I've had an equal amount of problems between amd and nvidia drivers over the years.

Some have driver issues. Some don't. I definitely do NOT want to see AMD leave any drivers in limbo. Thats just a bad move for ANY company.

Hi all

Am running eyefinity with x2 6970's ( i7 @ 3.8mhz )

Slight problem with MOH / Bc2 / bo's
-I love the depth of field effect in these games, but running crossfire it is lost,
Running on 1 card ti looks great but have to lower aa & af to 1 & sometimes a fps hit
Am running drivers 10.12 have tried earlier drivers too

Have tried different setting in bios (desperate measures lol ) and lots of fiddling
Maybe it's the unreal 3 engine these games are based on? Not compatible with crossfire eyefinity?
In single screen mode all fine in crossfire (but hate single screen after being

Dirt 2 works very well in crossfire with massive performance gain (still in eyefinity) so I know my setup works

Power Supply Seasonic G-450 // Corsair CXM 430W
I have been lucky, apart from the messed up mouse sensitivity in metro 2033 the games i have been playing in eyefinity have not shown up any bugs like that but i would say the extra two screens is worth a small drop in image quality.

Hiya bear Jesus
Cheers for reply, but the crossfire dosnt really help these 3 titles at all and takes away the depth effect (which is soooo nice )

Try it yourself with just one card, ( fov around 48 to 50 I find best res 4800x900 it looks almost 3d, but enabling crossfire it goes "flat)

I must admit i sold my second 6870 before i got bc2 so it was one of a few games i did not try when combining crossfire and eyefinity so not really sure what it looks like without the depth of field so cant judge.

I sold it when intending to go 6970 crossfire but was not impressed enough to buy on launch day and am now stuck between 6970 crossfire or waiting for the next gen cards.

well the 5970 launched 2 months after the 5870 so i wouldn't expect to see the 6990 before mid-late february. I say mid march would be about right.

Hold on if you can bear Jesus if you can I guess,
Apart from my depth of field moanin I'm really happy with these cards in every other way though.

Maybe official drivers will sort it (it's only when running eyefinity which is all the time!)
It's the only thing bugging me. (my 5970 was same when 2 gpus on )

At the moment i have been happily playing many games maxed or almost maxed out at 5040x1050, the main thing a single 6870 can't deal with at this res is high AA or some DX11 games so I'm in no major hurry to upgrade and if i do I'm considering getting a single 6970 to put under water until the next gen comes out to see whats available but as i said before 2 6970's are also an option but i would leave water alone if i did so due to the cost of a pair of water blocks or even 2 6850's... too many choices :banghead:

It all depends how long i can go without scratching that upgrade itch  but i would like to be able to go with a 28nm chip next but only time will tell what i do.

Sounds right. If they can keep it around 499 it would be a winner.

Be nice if prices were more affordable for everyone , like $350 for the HD 6990. But that won't happen until about 2 years have gone by.

I am glad you Post alot ... you keep the Forum here kicking.

Your Avatar is neet .. reminds me of Boy George from Culture Club.

He (Boy George) was a strange fella but had some good tunes... but today Lady Gaga fashion is definitely for the Weirdos. So what he had was mild comparing that Gaga is extremely somewheres else. Madonna beats them both in stage fashion presence and many top hit songs.. Nothing like the " Material Girl "- Madonna.

Hey! keep posting and have fun .... now all this forum has to do is add streaming video with good music .... we can have a Party.

Fix your butchered windows install. I've had ZERO problems with installing 14 of the 6xxx series cards on new and old builds.

Maybe its just operator error, would be the most likely cuase.

yeah pity it's unlikely to see that price but yeah I'd grab 1 if it were. Just sold a 5970 used for that price well over a year after launch. Why did we hate ati and nvidia's price fixing so much? 500$ was the max back then.

I think I figured out why the 6990 Antilles is being delayed. They are waiting for the next batch of 6950's with laser cuts. Wouldn't that be awesome though to get a dual socket 6950 and unlock them to 6970 cores! That would be like, and much better then Asus Ares card with 2 true 5870 cores.

Personally I think Boy George looked better when he looked like a girl than what he looks like now. He's grotesque. I mean WTF is this about?

He looks like he belongs in an evil clown movie.

But the 5970 had two 5870 cores they were just under clocked to 5850 speeds, i had hoped/assumed the 6990 would have two 6970 cores under clocked to 6950 speeds.

Had a go at overclocking a 6850 the other day, has to be said impressed me more than my own 6870.

The one I had could do 1000core @ 1.225 volts.

Most of been some bottleneck in the card somewhere as after overclocking fps went up 130 percent in unigine heaven from 10fps at the first scene to 23.

Not bad! lol
