Maybe I will give them another shot at it with there next driver release but for now I am happy once again . I just want what every one els wants better performance for free with drivers is all and hey I had no luck go figure .

Nice one 95viper !!! That was very nice ! Great job bro ! Maybe you can help me get these to work ?

HUH? i go to ati/drivers select desktop /hd5XXX/ win7 64bit download screen comes up displaying 11.1. But when it installs it is infact this,

Driver Packaging Version 8.812-110104a-111988C-ATI
Catalyst Version 10.11
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1114
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0806
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10428
Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0104.2155.39304

So people with HD5XXX cards downloading from other locations other than AMD website maybe putting in the wrong driver version or ccc panel which is ment for HD6XXX cards, Bound to cause problems.

NO Goose here!

Just finished installing catalyst 11.1 after cursing myself all day whether or not these drivers would stuff up on me

Finished successfully and no problems so far...

CCC and GPU-Z still shows I have 10.12, but I've noticed that the Open CL box is ticked in GPU-Z :)

Is anyone else not getting any performance improvement with an HD6870 in 3DMark 11? I think I picked up 7 points when changing from 11.1 to 11.1a and picked up nothing between 10.12 and 11.1. What happened to the 35% improvement we were supposed to get?

Turn Tessellation to off? I am only half kidding in that I am not sure exactly under what circumstances this supposed 35% is seen. Cause turning it off gave me about 700 more points over 10.12, App controlled was 2 points less. Though isn't turning it off a cheat of sorts?

Just me having issues with these drivers is all . I bet all in all they are great . But I will never know :D . But looking around here I am not the ONLY one with problems . I think ATI tailor made these for the HD6XXX cards and did not include the HD5XXX cards for a reason . But that is just my opinion .

The new Cats work just fine with 5000 series. Are you still having a problem? If so I've seen similar to some still had old video card devices that are hidden within device manager. Have you tried looking at it to see if that's the case?

1. Type: CMD in start's search box
2. Right click on CMD from the list and Run as Administrator
3. At the dos prompt typed: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 (this will show all hidden devices in Device Manager)
4. Type devmgmt.msc (this will take you to Device Manager). Click on View and select show hidden devices
5. Look in Display Adapter and for any grayed out or duplicate video cards and remove them. Then check your Monitors

Also, check CCC's Information > Software > 2D Driver File Path. Where is it located in the registry?

Oh, so the new driver won't install? Hmm, have you tried to force install them?
1. X:\ATI\Support\11-01_XXXXX\Config\InstallManager.cfg
2. Open it using notepad
3. Change WorkaroundInstall=false to WorkaroundInstall=true
4. Save the change and exit
5. Uninstall old drivers Reboot
6. Go to Device Manager and check Display Adapters. Does it read Generic VGA (or something like that). If so proceed with installing new drivers. If not report back. I would suggest removing all old 5000/4000/etc video card devices from device manager once the drivers are uninstalled (in this situation since you are having issues). Normally you should be able to delete the old device and rescan Display Adapters for new changes. However, that may not work if the registry command for Standard VGA/Generic VGA was removed from the registry.

In any case try that. But that helps if you can't install the drivers. If there is some other problem I don't think that will help.

In the meantime you can do a registry search for Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Does anything popup for it?

Is it just me or MLAA in anything later than 10.10e drivers doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be? I remember super smooth looking NFS Hot Pursuit, but with 11.1 and also 11.1a i see damn jaggies all over the place. Have they made it less aggressive to solve the blurring of certain elements or what? I can live with blurry Games for Windows menus and slightly blurry Steam, but this kinda defeats the purpose of MLAA. The result just isn't as good anymore.

Well, I just ran it again with 11.1a and now it's crawling in 3DMark 11. It was doing over 22fps in the submarine test at the beginning and is now doing 7-8fps in that test. There is something wrong with this driver. I rolled back to 11.1 and it's back up to 22fps in the submarine test.
