Looking for good < $50 cans

Looking for good quality cans for light gaming and computer audio. I have a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music card.

I had bought Koss SB-40 earlier and thought they sounded pretty good. Looking for equivalent or better but less than $50.

EDIT: what about cans with a microphone ?

In that price range, I enjoyed my JVC HARX700's, not sure how they'd compare to the Koss's though. I wanna say the 700's were around $35 shipped. There's a mod thread over on head-fi that can tune them more to your likings if you want more out of the chute.

If you really need to stay under $50 then the Sennheiser HD 202 is a very good sub $50 headphone. Man only $19.99 with overwhelming positive response. Makes me want get a 2nd pair.

I love my set of Panasonic HTX7, they look pretty sweet too. Quite a few colors to choose from.

Maybe try a friend with a nice set of cans, those can usually be had for under $50. Otherwise you have to take them to dinner, etc. Even ones you pay for upfront, under $50 will prob. be pointing towards the ground.

I did a little different route, using a Turtle Beach HPA2 boom mic, a couple small zip ties and a 10ft 3.5mm audio extension cord, which works amazingly well. Was super easy to do on my HARX700 and D2000. But the Zalman route is the quickest and easiest aside from buying a headset.

I have a Razer Piranha... it's got good sound, comfortable (but somehow gets kind of sore on me after 3+ hours), but the mic is not so good... at least in my opinion. I had to play with the sensitivity level in vent a lot to get it to register properly.

Well you want that you will pay probably pay a lot. Check my headphone thread (see link in sig), I have a few reviews in the OP along with a ton of links, some headsets, some headphones. I've yet to meet a headset in the $100 category that can compete with my $50 JVC HARX700 + HPA2 mic combo. Though having a decent sound card is a plus, not sure what you have as for some reason your system specs isn't popping up atm.

Some companies like Beyerdynamic make a headphone with an integrated mic for a pair of cans with a mic, but it's closer to $300+ iirc. I guess it depends on how you wanna do this.

Honestly a good, sub $50 pair of cans and a clip-on mic of sorts will dominate in the field of gaming headsets. Especially when a decent x-fi, xonar, etc are involved. I know this from experience and a lot of money spent over the years before I finally gave in, I'm glad I did and haven't looked back yet.

Gaming headsets by definition are not made to sound good. I would not pick one ever again. If you like good audio, get a clip on mic and a good headset. Please, please don't pick Razer, Corsair, Thermaltake, Steel whatever, or any other gaming company. Pic an audio company. They just won't sound good if you get a gaming headset, so please, please don't!

And they have the built in mic as well. Work well with Windows 7, all games, and ventrillio, Skype, and Teamspeak.
